New Year’s Eve light up along Marina Bay is happening now until 31 Dec

by Vera

December’s barely started, and we’ve already seen the slew of Christmas events, markets, and activities. How’s a New Year’s Eve light up for a change? While most might be ambivalent about the the arrival of the new year (or the departure of the current one, depending on how you see it), there’s a certainty that ties Singaporeans together — basking in festivities and snapping pictures.

From now until 31 December 2021, parts of the Marina Bay area will be doused in colours and lights as part of the year-end display, joining the countdown light up activities that are ongoing until the end of 2021.

Wander through colourful trees that are lit in every colour of the rainbow, making this walkway an optimal photo spot, so prepare your cameras if you’re dropping by.

Spot chonky, round birds around the vicinity that help to spruce up the facade of the waterfront area, in addition to all the fanfare that’s already going on.

The canopies in the Marina Bay precinct will also be peppered with tiny stars, creating a whimsical awning of nighttime skies. So while star gazing might be a rarity in densely-populated and constantly-lit Singapore, this immersive projection acts as a gorgeous glimpse into the activity.

As a departure from the other multi-coloured displays, an abstract clock face will be projected on a wall opposite the Marina Bay Financial Centre. In addition, a collection of New Year’s wishes will also be flashed on screen, and to get your very own wishes featured, all you have to do is DM them to URA Singapore’s socials or hashtag #MBSCWishes.

Other countdown displays & fireworks

If you haven’t already heard the news, there won’t be a grand firework display at Marina Bay area again this year to due to social distancing matters. There will, however, be decentralised fireworks happening at 11 different neighbourhoods so you might be able to catch an even better view of the pyrotechnics this year.

Other light shows such as the Shine A Light and Share The Moment projections will still go on, so be sure to catch that before the year ends.
