My first thought when I heard about Daiso’s increased prices from 1 May 2022 onwards — how do I live, laugh, love in these conditions? No, I’m not being dramatic. Where else would I find tableware, decor and more for S$2 per item?
However, there’s actually something even better just across the border, and we defo don’t gatekeep here! Ninso (Plentong) in Johor Bahru is a gigantic no-frills store selling practically everything, and the best part is that almost all items are priced at RM2.40, which roughly converts to just S$0.72 — it’s basically Daiso on steroids.
It’s also pretty easy to get to especially if you’re driving, since it’s only about a 30-minute drive from Woodlands Checkpoint.
Patrons rave about the large variety of items available like homeware, snacks, stationery, and even potted plants. Ninso prides itself on affordability, value and quality, so you can be sure to get the most bang for your buck! Given the plethora of products, you’ll probably be able to find everything your heart desires — all at such a steal. There’s also ample parking space, so you can defo go crazy and stock up on all the items you need.
Still not enough shopping? Hop over to Giant Plentong Mall that’s just across the street for even more options. Given that it’s a little more under-the-radar as compared to other malls frequented by us Singaporeans (ahem, KSL), it’ll probably be a more comfortable shopping experience as well.
You’ll find a Giant Hypermarket with tons of fresh groceries and a large selection of household necessities at low prices. If you get hungry after a full day of shopping, there are various fast food options to choose from, and even a food court known for affordable and delicious eats.
The next time you head down to Johor Bahru for a short getaway, be sure to stop by Ninso (Plentong) and shop till you drop!
