5 Restaurants in Singapore to Impress Your In-Laws, Current or Future

Share

Nervous about meeting your partner’s parents? Start with one great meal at a time. Try these 5 restaurants that’ll win their heart and bellies.

1. Maison Yoshoku

Meeting your other half’s parents for the first time? Start with a great restaurant, then amuse them with dessert. Maison Yoshoku’s interior combines muted tones, soft lighting, and Japanese details, making conversations easy. Here are a few dinner picks worth trying – a selection of modern Yoshoku dishes and Izakaya-style plates.

You’ve got to try the Trevally Crudo (S$24), paired with house-made yuzu ponzu, wasabi oil for that nice kick, and heirloom tomatoes. Good for sharing, the Maison Yoshoku Bouillabaisse (S$34) is a Japanese take on French seafood stew paired with sourdough bread.

End off the meal at the dessert Omakase Bar. Choose from the 3-course (S$25), 5-course (S$35), or 7-course (S$45) – whichever you think suits your in-laws and will be in-law-approved.

The dessert Omakase Bar is available from 3pm to 10pm daily, with limited slots. Click here to make your reservations!

2. Summer Pavilion

If your goal tonight is to be the favourite child-in-law, then Summer Pavilion is a Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant that speaks for itself. It’s a polished fine-dining experience, which is a plus or minus depending on the occasion.

Trust us on their Double-boiled Superior Bird’s Nest served in a whole coconut (S$108), warm, hearty, and nourishing. With many proteins to choose from, the Barbecued Ibérico Pork with honey sauce (S$48) was a showstopper, and the must-try Poached Rice with Canadian Lobster Meat (S$32). Close the meal on a nostalgic note with Yam Paste Ice Cream (S$12), which reimagines orh nee in a cool, creamy form.

If you’re aiming for in-law approval, Summer Pavilion is a safe bet. Reserve ahead here, order generously, and enjoy the compliments.

3. Dill

Seen other half’s parents before and you’re just looking for good food that leaves a good impression? Then you’ve picked the right table at Dill.

Good food, calm ambience, and servers who know what they’re doing. Dill is a warm, vibrant space to enjoy delicious, casual Scandinavian food. They turn up the elegance with a Set Menu and à la carte options, with dinner and drinks served from Wednesday to Saturday, 4pm to 11pm.

We’d suggest trying the Waffle with Löyrom (S$32), Toast Skagen with Fermented Turnips (S$28), Wagyu Onglet with Tarragon and Kailan (S$49), and Wild-caught Fish with Potato and Leeks (S$49).

Make your reservations here – good food and a good impression.

The standouts here are their signature Charcoal-grilled Octopus (S$38), charred to perfection; the Paccheri (S$42), a rich tomato-based pasta loaded with generous portions of seafood; and Fico’s Tiramisu (S$18), the sweet finish every Italian brunch needs.

Having been more than 4 times, my top picks are the Pimientos de Padrón (S$10), peppers with salt, Croquetas de Jamón (from S$7), Ibérico ham croquettes, Pepito Madrid (S$15), Angus beef flatbread, and the Tapa de Paella (S$25).

Carlitos also turns 2 on 12 November and will be transforming into a lively Basque-inspired street party, from 5.30pm to 11.30pm! Secure your ticket here to enjoy 3 tapas and 1 drink for S$38 – each guest must have one ticket for entry!

Small plates, big spread, everyone’s fork in. Win them over, one dish at a time. Secure your table here.
