Calling all Easties, especially those who dwell in Pasir Ris!
Here’s a hidden hangout spot away from the hustle and bustle, Revel Bistro & Bar, that might just become your new go-to for casual Japanese fusion fare, affordable alcohol, live music, and plenty of enticing deals.
Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle? The location is as “far east” as you can get, at none other than the peaceful Aranda Country Club near Downtown East.
There’s even a super chill alfresco dining area illuminated by fairy lights and a massive neon sign — perfect for an evening of casual imbibing.
Live music is also available every Wednesday to Sunday from 8pm till late, so you can vibe to your favourite Mandopop, Top 40s, or Pop/Rock hits over a couple of pints.
Speaking of the booze, if you come by before 7pm, classic martinis like the sour Lemon Drop-Tini (U.P. S$15) are priced at two for S$18++, while special martinis such as the Love Martini (U.P. S$18), a crowd-pleasing concoction of rum, peach liquor, vodka cranberry, and strawberries, are priced at two for S$22.
Otherwise, Half-Pint Beers are priced at S$4 at 4pm, S$5 at 5pm, and S$6 at 6pm — the earlier, the better!
Moving on to the food, the sides available here, unsurprisingly, make for great bar bites.
We particularly enjoyed the Rojak Fish Skin (S$7.90), a substantial portion of crispy fish skin tossed in housemade prawn paste sauce, with turnip, cucumber, ground peanuts, and belacan.
I’m not even a fan of rojak, but these were seriously addictive — I had to stop myself from polishing off the entire plate!
Another side worth ordering for those who still go gaga over mentaiko is the Japanese-style Gyoza (S$6.90), that’s drizzled with rich mentaiko sauce, with a meaty and juicy filling.
Beer and izakaya-style yakitori go hand in hand, so take your pick from the selection of 13 glazed and grilled skewers, which include the likes of Salmon Belly (S$3.90), Unagi (S$5.90), and King Oyster Mushroom (S$2.90) — the latter was our favourite!
You can enjoy all skewers at S$2 each from 7pm to 10pm daily, limited to 10 skewers per table!
The bistro has also jumped on the sushi taco train with an array of Asian Tacos, crispy nori shells filled with sushi rice and Japanese-inspired toppings.
Instead of the typical raw dish, the sushi tacos served here contain either cooked seafood or meat — we enjoyed both the Cluck-A-Dilla (S$5.90), topped with chicken karaage and spring onions, and the El Moo Moo (S$5.90), a moreish teriyaki beef and caramelised onion number.
The mains, though decent, weren’t as remarkable as the aforementioned dishes. Even then, you won’t go wrong with one of Revel’s hearty Japanese-inspired rice bowls, like the teriyaki beef-topped Gimme Beef (S$14.90) or Ohayo Salmon (S$21.90).
If you prefer something more Western, the signature Revel Fish ‘N Chips (S$15.90) will more than suffice — it’s likely to be a hit with the kids too!
Here’s yet another deal you won’t want to miss — diners can enjoy 1-for-1 mains every day from 12pm to 3pm.
After all that feasting, challenge your friends to a friendly (or not) game of high-tech beer pong. It’s a one-of-a-kind digital beer pong set-up with extra dramatic sound effects and visuals straight out of a video game — you might leave feeling accomplished…or extremely embarrassed.
All you need to do is order a S$30 jar of ice-cold beer; no bookings are required either!
