Look up in the sky, it’s a bird! It’s a plane!
After a long seven year break, The Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) Open House is back, bigger and better than before. Taking place on 9 and 10 September 2023 at Paya Lebar Air Base, the RSAF Open House this year will feature interactive exhibitions, live performances, aerial displays, familiarisation flights and more. Sounds like an exciting weekend plan right there!
I’ve always loved watching the aerial displays during the National Day Parade. One of the most exciting — and the one I’m most excited for — is the jet scramble display. Two F-15SG jets will showcase an aerial strike tactic against a simulated ground threat. It’s not everyday that you get to witness the aircraft jetting off into action, so you’ll definitely not want to miss out on this opportunity.
Another must-watch is the H225M Medium-Lift Helicopter. You’ll get to watch first-hand how it deploys troops at a combat scene to neutralise threats — how thrilling is that! Apart from watching the displays, lucky visitors who have successfully scored themselves a seat on the familiarisation flights will get to board the aircraft and enjoy a little joy ride in the Chinook helicopter and the Airbus A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT).
Those who were unable to secure a seat on the flight, don’t fret. You’ll still get to explore the RSAF’s impressive fleet of aircraft. You can hop on board for a short tour around the cockpit for selected jets too — so really, not all is lost.
The fleet of aircraft on display include the Upgraded F-16C Multi-Role Fighter Jet, AH-64D Attack Helicopter, C-130 Hercules Transport Aircraft, S-70B Seahawk Naval Helicopter, and more.
Much like how the F-15SGs help to refuel the Airbus A330 , you’re gonna need something to refuel your energy. The open house will also feature several food trucks as well as some F&B options available around the main fairground — don’t worry guys, we promise they’ll be nicer than your cookhouse meals.
Some gastronomical highlights include Miss Chardog, The Slurp Shack, Sofnade, Loco Loco, Whiskdom, Big Big Fries, Habibtea, KREAM, Gyuniku, Komma and so much more!
To add to the festivities, there will also be special musical performances by the Music & Drama Company, as well as the SAF Central Band. Remember to also stop by the carnival game booths to score some sweet prizes and also snap plenty of pics at the photo spots placed around the Air Base.
If you are planning to pop by, do note that you are encouraged to take the free shuttle service available at 18 Tai Seng. Otherwise, you can also take the public transport or use private hire.
