This cottagecore-inspired cafe in Johor Bahru has choux pastries and chunky cookies in flavours like matcha yuzu, mango oolong & more

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always wanted to visit one of the dessert cafes in Korea only because everything looks like it just came out of a picture book.

From the unique and IG-worthy pastries to the whimsical interior, it’s a totally different vibe than the cafes we usually get in Singapore.

For those who share similar sentiments, here’s a place that you should check out (plus it’s a lot closer to home than you think)

Shuu Patisserie is a homely and cosy cottagecore-inspired cafe in JB, located just a 20-minutes drive away from the checkpoint.

Decked out in mismatched wooden furnishings, vintage tablecloths, and a handwritten menu, it’s like you’re actually transported to Seongsu (the Brooklyn of Seoul known for housing tons of aesthetic cafes)

You can look forward to a plethora of pastries as they specialise in choux puffs and soft cookies.

Indulge your sweet tooth with the Classic Madagascar Vanilla (S$3.44, RM12), choux that sports a crispy craquelin shell topped with a mountain of vanilla cream at a very affordable price.

But, what I’m more interested in is the signature Mango Passion Oolong (S$3.73, RM13) and Matcha Yuzu (S$3.73, RM13) choux puff. The latter is generously filled with luscious matcha cream and tangy yuzu curd.

Nevertheless, both pastries look equally promising.

If you’re someone who avoids desserts because it’s too sugary, you can always opt for the 70.5% Dark Chocolate (S$3.73, RM13) choux puff. It isn’t overly sweet, but you’ll still be able to enjoy the rich chocolatey flavour from the ganache filling.

As a huge fan of chunky and thicc cookies, I was delighted to find that they offer soft cookies including Matcha Nutella Hazelnut (S$4.59, RM16), S’mores Chocolate Chip (S$4.02, RM14), and good ol’ Triple Chocolate Walnut (S$4.30, RM15) sprinkled with flaky sea salt.

Each cookie features a crispy exterior and ooey-gooey interior with plenty of chocolate chips in between.

If you’re fortunate enough, you might even catch some exclusive items that can’t be found on the menu — think caneles, dacquoise or special choux flavours like taro or kinako soybean mochi.

That being said, Shuu Patisserie makes for a lovely place to hangout for your next afternoon tea session with friends, perhaps?

Will you be heading down for affordable choux pastries and cookies?
