This Thai-style night market in Johor Bahru has over 80 F&B stalls selling street eats including tom yum mama, mango sticky rice & more for a limited time only

As much as I love Bangkok for its affordable street fare and trendy vintage apparel, I can’t just fly there on a whim without breaking the bank. 

If you can relate, I got just the thing for you.

Located outside Toppen Shopping Centre in JB, Siam Festival 2024 will be taking place from now till 9 June from 10am–12am daily. 

Be prepared to come on an empty stomach (and a full wallet) as there is gonna be a plethora of food vendors. With over 80 F&B stalls selling authentic Thai hot dishes and plenty of halal options, it’s as if you’re actually transported to Bangkok.

What’s a Thai meal without your usual tom yum mama alongside moo ping (grilled BBQ meat skewers)? 

Don’t forget to eat it with a side of tangy and citrusy seafood som tam (papaya salad) to cut down the spice. 

To end on a sweeter note, get the dessert that’s most popular in the summertime — refreshing mango sticky rice drizzled with coconut milk.

Besides that, you can also find conventional street snacks like corn dogs with mozzarella (there’s even a chocolate version if you’re feeling brave), sweet potato balls, buldak ramen and more.

Seafood lovers will rejoice to hear that they have a wide spread of dishes to choose from. Think juicy prawns over heavily seasoned rice, large fried squid, char kuey teow with scallops, and mini baby fried crabs in BBQ seasoning.

But, if you’re planning to play carnival games or go on rides, you might not want to eat too much. 

Instead, nibble on small snacks like long fries, sausages, fried chicken or meat and lok lok for variety so that you can mix and match as you please. 

Alternatively, those with a sweet tooth might prefer kunafa, churros or mini pancakes. 

Wash it all down with colourful drinks in fruity flavours like Ribena strawberry, lemon-lime, apple or pulled teh tarik for caffeine lovers.

Afterwards, indulge in some much-needed retail therapy and check out the apparel corner where you can find traditional baju kurung, perfumes, and makeup.

Bringing the little ones out for a bonding activity? 

Keep them entertained while you shop with family-friendly activities including a gigantic bouncy castle, car rides, and fishing games. 

As it is open from till midnight, you can afford to take your time and leisurely browse through the different stalls.
