This Korean BBQ restaurant is the first in Singapore to specialise in Korean-style lamb BBQ alongside wagyu sirloin, soy marinated crab and more

By now, it’s pretty much a known fact that Tanjong Pagar is Singapore’s own “little Korea” with plenty of Korean BBQ restaurants lining the street. Meatchelin is the newest kid on the block offering a K-BBQ experience that is unlike any other.

When you think of K-BBQ, you would probably think of barbecued beef, pork belly, and the occasional seafood. But, Meatchelin is proving to be a real game changer. They’re the first in Singapore to serve Korean-style lamb BBQ.

As someone who typically avoids taking lamb because of the unpleasant gamey taste, I have to admit I was a little hesitant to give this place a go. But as an avid K-BBQ lover, I was curious to see how this would turn out. Fun fact: they’re really popular in Korea too!

The Meatchelin Six Piece Signature Lamb Set (S$138) comes with grilled bean sprouts, tomatoes, garlic, okra, onions and leek served on the side. As part of the premium K-BBQ experience, you’ll have handsome Korean oppas doing all the cooking for you — so just sit back and enjoy the meal.

The meats are all atop a charcoal grill which gives it a nice smoky char and aroma. The flavours of the lamb will really surprise you. It was chewy, juicy, and not gamey at all. It paired perfectly with the savoury-garlicky dipping sauce, which helped to elevate the flavours of the meat.

Apart from the sides, you can also pair them with the homemade kimchi and ssamjang sauce. What’s also unique here is that they also have white kimchi here which is a non-spicy version of the regular kimchi.

If you ever visit them, don’t sleep on their kimchi. It is super crunchy and each leaf is generously coated in the sweet, spicy and garlicky marinade — simply delicious.

Apart from lamb ribs, you’ll also be able to find premium selections of your usual K-BBQ favourites like Marinated Prime Short Ribs (S$58), Wagyu Beef Tongue (S$42), Wagyu Oyster Blade (S$52), Iberico Pork Collar (S$28), Black Pork Belly (S$28) and more.

The Iberico Pork Collar was truly one of the tastiest I’ve ever tried. It had a good fat-to-meat ratio and the meat was tender. Top it off with some roasted garlic for an extra fragrant and flavourful bite (because everything tastes better with garlic).

Meat lovers have to order the Wagyu Sirloin (S$58) which was thick, juicy and cooked to perfection. I loved that the meat had a nice char which elevated the beefy flavours while adding a touch of smokiness into the mix. Top it off with some kimchi and a drizzle of the dipping sauce and you’ll get a real medley of flavours and  textures all in one bite.

Meatchelin did not forget about all you seafood lovers. They have a selection of fresh seafood like Scallops (S$15), Jumbo Red Shrimps (S$15) as well as Oysters (from S$12) — the latter can be enjoyed either grilled or raw.

Other unique Korean fare offered here include Crab Stew (S$25), Crab Ramen (S$20), Yukhoe (S$28), Seafood Pancake (S$30) and more.

They even have the popular Ganjang Gejang or Soy Sauce Marinated Crab (S$45) — I’ll definitely be back for this and of course more meat! What about you?
