If you caught the Netflix series J-Style Trip, you might remember that one episode when JJ Lin brought Jay Chou to eat mee pok at a stall he frequents.
The stall in question, Sim Lim Square Bak Chor Mee, closed down in late 2022 after two decades at Broadway Food Court in Sim Lim Square, much to the shock and sadness of its regulars.
But if you’ve been missing their slurp-worthy noodles, you can now get your fix — after 10 long months — at a coffeeshop in Lengkok Bahru.
Those who plan to visit for the first time can go for the reliable Signature Bak Chor Mee (S$5), which comes chock-full of ingredients like ngoh hiang, fishballs, fishcakes, minced pork, mushrooms, and a handmade dumpling.
Feel free to ask for more chilli padi, vinegar (even though they are already quite generous with it), and crunchy pork lard if you want to really enjoy your meal, along with Fried Dumplings (3pcs) or Dumpling Soup (3pcs) for an additional S$2.
Otherwise, keep it simple(r) with the Handmade Fish Ball Noodle (from S$3.50) or Dumpling Noodle (from S$4), which are just as satisfying.
If you swing by on a rainy day, the soupy Mini Pot Noodle (S$6), comprising a literal mini pot of vegetables, minced meat, fishballs, meatball, fishcakes, dumpling, and an egg, served with a bowl of dry noodles, will warm you right up.
