Satisfy your sugar cravings at Sugartown, a hidden cafe serving unique gelato flavours like Italian White Truffle, Gingerbread Cookies & more

by Marcus Leong

Is the hot and humid weather starting to get to you? Well, the perfect thing to beat the heat is a nice huge scoop of ice cream. Ice cream parlours in Singapore are a dime a dozen, but Sugartown stands out from the rest for its giant scoops of the rich and creamy gelato in interesting flavours you’d never expect in gelato.

Located near Kadaloor LRT Station in Punggol, Sugartown is a cosy cafe hidden under a HDB block serving scoops of gelato and waffles — the perfect combination on a scorching day. On the menu, you’ll find a selection of coffee and tea, as well as a selection of gelato in interesting flavours. Each scoop of gelato is priced at S$4.50, with premium flavours going for S$5.50 and super premium for S$6.50

Probably the most unique flavour is the Italian White Truffle. Truffle and ice cream may not be the most ideal combination for many, but Sugartown makes this unique combo work by infusing real truffle shavings into the ice cream instead of using truffle oil, giving it a decadent mix of savoury and sweet. It does have an acquired taste, though, so if you’re not too adventurous with your food, you might want to give this a miss.

Other unique flavours include the Gingerbread Cookie, Mascarpone Basil, and Bacio — which is like a zhng-ed up version of chocolate hazelnut ice cream.

Undoubtedly one of the best food combinations in the world is ice cream and waffles. Pair your ice cream with a thick and fluffy waffle from just S$4.50. If you’re all about the aesthetics, go for the charcoal waffle to give your dish some bold colour. Sugartown also has a waffles in a cup (S$7.30) option for the busy bees who are looking to enjoy the waffles on the go.

For drinks, you can expect your usual cafe suspects like Espresso (S$4), Americano (S$4.50), Latte (S$5), as well as a selection of teas. For something more refreshing, go for the Ice Shaken Honey Lemonade (S$5), Chocolate Affogato (S$8.50), or the Root Beer Float (S$8.50).

If you’ve got some time to spare on your hands, why not have a go at the old-school game machine. Each token costs S$1 and you’ll get to enjoy a round of Space Invaders — a very popular game back in the day.
