As we eagerly await the upcoming Hari Raya festivities, good ol’ Swensen’s has chimed in with a couple of newly launched Ramadan Specials, available from now till 15 May 2022. Oh, and don’t worry — there’s a lot of ice cream involved.
One of the most hyper-realistic ice cream creations to come out of Swensen’s R&D kitchen is “Fried Chicken”, which took the internet by storm when it was first launched. You can now find it atop the limited edition Nasi Lemak Ice Cream Cake (S$50.28), a double-layered coconut and kueh salat ice cream cake flanked by roasted peanuts, a “sunny side-up egg”, and “sambal chilli”.
I don’t know whether I’d prefer this over the legendary Firehouse Sundae on my birthday, but it definitely makes a great (gag) gift.
To add more coconut-ty goodness into the mix, the Nasi Lemak Burger (S$15.80) has made a triumphant return. Sink your teeth into fried chicken layered with crunchy cucumber slices, sambal chilli, roasted peanuts, ikan bilis, and a sunny side up on brioche buns, served alongside signature U.S. fries and coleslaw.
New on the menu is the King Prawn Pasta Goreng (S$15.80), a generous portion of linguine with king prawns, sliced chicken breast, cherry tomatoes. Sweet and subtly spicy, this pasta dish needs nothing more than a squeeze of calamansi.
Dining with picky eaters and/or a large group? The Ramadan Family Platter (S$28.80), consisting of popcorn chicken, calamari, breaded fish, cheese sticks, wings and drumlets, U.S. fries, and a bowl of cucumber salad, will cater to young and old alike.
The accompanying dips of curry tartar and sambal chilli sauce take these deep-fried munchies to a whole ‘nother level.
Swensen’s has also put their very own spin on the pasar malam staple, Pisang Goreng Keju (S$12.80). Their rendition is topped with grated cheddar, drizzled with either hazelnut spread or chocolate cold fudge, and comes crowned with a scoop of Swensen’s ice cream of your choice. You won’t go wrong with the super safe Vanilla.
Last but not least, the Ondeh Ondeh Ice Cream Cake (S$14.80 for 1pc dine-in, S$29.80 for takeaway 2pc) emulates the flavours of the crowd-favourite kueh with Salted Gula Melaka ice cream and shredded coconut shavings. I won’t judge you if this is the only green thing you plan on eating today.
