The lauded festival will take place from 6 January to 26 January 2023 in the Civic District — and will feature a myriad of exciting activities for you to partake in from spectacular light and multimedia installations to engaging shows. There’s also a festival village which will include over 60 booths offering tantalising bites, arts, crafts and unique trinkets for sale, as well as stellar performances. There wouldn’t be a dull moment here to say the least! 

The theme of this year’s festival is Here and Now — in which both local and international artists will inspire the audience with their pieces on what it means to embrace living in the present. 

Some highlights that you can’t miss include Ephemeral — a magical art installation located at the Padang featuring larger than life bubble structures. Coupled with the gorgeous light effects and Singapore’s cityscape, these gleaming bubbles will be the perfect way to kick off your IG and TikTok feed for the new year! 

Another exhibition that’s bound to catch your eye is Botanica — a hyperrealistic light projection of some of the most ethereal flowers (that are often used in Southeast Asian arts) located within the dome of the Rotunda Library and Archives in the National Gallery. As the flowers bloom above you, you’ll feel like you’ve been whisked away to a tranquil world of beauty and enchantment. 

For those who have been stressed out lately, check out PULSE — a calming light projection exhibit that’s both mesmerising and healing at the same time taking place at Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall. This exhibit will be accompanied by a special soundtrack that’s pitched at 432Hz — a frequency that’s supposed to be aligned with the universe. Talk about zen! 

When you’re done with the ethereal exhibits or whenever you need a break, there’s also the Art x Social festival market — where you’ll find loads of interesting things for sale as well as various crafting workshops and F&B booths!

A massive go-kart track will be opening in Jurong on 27 August, so go-kart enthusiasts and adrenaline-seekers can look forward to conquering this new circuit in the West. Starting from only S$35/session, this is a weekend activity to add to your list.

The Karting Arena’s new go-kart track in Jurong 

Created by The Karting Arena, the new 700m long go-kart track spans 153,000 sq ft and features 11 technical turns. If you’ve already conquered the race track at their Bukit Timah outlet, this is a new monster circuit that you’ll have to take on. 

The larger space also allows up to 30 go-karts on track at any one time. This means a shorter waiting time and more people to compete with. 

No more rusty machines either. At this go-kart track in Jurong, you will be riding a fleet of Birel ART petroleum go-karts, a speedy and lightweight vehicle that’s used by pro-go-kart racers from all over the world. 

Sessions are priced from S$35/session for the 30km/h Novices (minimum 9 years old and 140cm), but for those with a driver’s license, go ahead and challenge yourself with the 50km/h Adults (18 years old and above), which is also priced at S$35/session.

Not to worry if you’re afraid to take the wheel but would still like to go for a spin. Other than the single-karts, there are also double seaters which allow a pillion. Equipped with a dummy wheel at the back, you can still pretend that you’re cruisin’ while someone else does the work.

All lap timings are tracked and recorded and a digital copy will be sent to your email for keepsake — a remarkable memento for an exceptional driver.

Decked with a race control room, trace cameras, and even a viewing gallery, the new go-kart track in Jurong means business. Though open to the public, it has become a hotspot for professional race drivers as well. 

To maximise the difficulty, Night driving is also available, with the arena open till 9pm daily except on Mondays. 

For a full-fledged racer experience, safety measures include barriers similar to the ones installed in Formula 1 circuits, and there’s a remote stop master control system that can stop all the go-karts on track in case of an emergency. 

Karters can also visit the nearby d’Arena for some refreshments after the race.
