Whenever I watch Chinese period dramas like Yanxi Palace, I am always intrigued by the tea and accompanying side dishes that the characters are enjoying while sitting in a pavilion in the garden. Even if you’re not into these dramas, and you’re just looking for something new to try, or perhaps a quiet place to chill and chat with your friends, you should definitely check out Tea Time at Chinatown.
Located just a short walk away from the iconic Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum in Chinatown, this quaint little teahouse is perfect for those looking for a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of Singapore’s fast-paced city life.
Inside the teahouse, you’ll see lovely paintings of peaceful waves and the likes of it accompanying the clean, minimalistic and wooden-accented interiors. Here, you’ll be able to settle down and enjoy a nice pot of tea and unwind after a long day of work with your loved ones.
If you’re a true tea lover, you’ll marvel at their extensive menu of Chinese teas — with various types of Yellow Tea, Oolong Tea, Green Tea, White Tea, Pu Er Tea, Black Tea, Scented Floral Tea, Cold Brewed Tea and Herbal Tea. For those who aren’t initiated into the tea game just yet, you can also ask for recommendations from the staff — each tea has a different taste profile and it really just depends on what you prefer (personally, I loved citrusy flavours so the Tangerine Peel Pu Er Tea and Green Mandarin Orange Tea really takes the cake for me!).
Other than tea, they also serve mains and various dim sum to accompany your brew like Steamed Chicken and Mushroom Rice (S$11.80), Matcha Cold Noodles (S$8.80), Special Shredded Chicken (S$18.80), Salted Egg Shao Mai (S$5.80), Custard Bun (S$5.80) and the list goes on.
The recommendation is to order the Tea Snacks to pair with your tea, like Long Jing Dried Tofu (S$3.80), Traditional Bean Cake (S$5.80), Yunnan Sweet Corn (S$3.80), Peanut Crisp (S$3.80) and various other thoughtfully curated dishes.
