Taiwan is finally re-opening to Singaporeans with visa-free entry for up to a 30-day stay so we can travel to Taiwan in 2022

by

Update: On 6 September, Tuesday, Taiwan has temporarily suspended visa-free travel for several countries including Singapore and Malaysia. That being said, travel to Taiwan is still a viable travel destination for Singaporeans with a visa.

Taiwan has always been one of the hottest travel destinations for Singaporeans — but thanks to COVID, many of us have been deprived of our fair share of night markets, bubble tea and midnight Family Mart runs for way too long.

Luckily for the ones suffering from the lack of travel to our favourite land of oyster mee sua, Taiwan has just announced that they will be opening up to tourists from selected countries — including Singapore (yay for us!), so we can finally travel to Taiwan in 2022.

From Monday, 12 September 2022, visitors from countries like the United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the 14 countries listed as their diplomatic allies will be able to enjoy visa-free travel into Taiwan (and will be allowed to stay for up to 90 days).

This is in part of their efforts to ease their COVID restrictions, since the local population is well-vaccinated and the pandemic has more or less stabilised — with most cases exhibiting mild to no symptoms and many other countries also opening up their borders to travellers.

While Singaporeans are exempted from having to apply for a visa, our duration of stay is up to 30 days (which is honestly more than enough to get our fix of delicious Taiwanese street fare so we’re not complaining!). And the same also applies to those holding a Malaysian passport.

If you’re finally planning a trip to Taiwan after this news, you’ll also be glad to know that you no longer have to present a negative pre-departure PCR test. Although, a three-day quarantine and PCR test upon arrival is still required. To ensure that the COVID-19 situation remains controlled and stable for everyone, the 50,000 arrival capacity will also remain.
