Here’s one for those of us missing Taiwan (or those of us who are always up for some good food). Step into True Breakfast at Cuppage Plaza and enjoy some good old Taiwanese breakfast dishes from the quintessential Taiwanese favourite Scallion Pancakes (S$4) to a variety of Taiwanese rice, noodles, omelettes and sandwiches.

This humble and homely Taiwanese eatery is only open from 9am to 2pm from Wednesdays to Mondays and has already gathered quite the following with queues of people patiently waiting to get their fill of breakfast.

Once you make it into the cafe, you’ll feel like you’ve been somewhat transported into a small cafe right in Taiwan with its simple decor, and interestingly enough, rows of toy displays with nostalgic figurines the likes of Marvel superheroes and more.

The star of the show, however, lies in its menu of signature Taiwanese breakfast staples, with familiar street food favourites.

Apart from the crisp and savoury Scallion Pancakes, here’s where you can tuck into Braised Pork Rice, S$4 (fell in love with a S$1 bowl of melty braised pork rice I ordered off a street food cart my first time in Taipei and will never stop hunting down incredible lu rou fan!).

Other offerings include hearty Beef & Tendon Noodles (S$12), Pan-fried Noodles (S$4.80) in a delectable black pepper sauce with egg, Meat Floss & Eggs Taiwanese Omelette (S$4.50), Pork Chop & Eggs Sandwich (S$5) and more.

And if you’re a fan of popular street food Salty Chicken (what I have historically described as something like a chicken rice rojak!), you can find it here too. Choose what you like – chicken drumstick, tofu, broccoli and others – then get it tossed together before enjoying your salty chicken ‘salad’.

With these beloved Taiwanese staples available on the menu, it’s no wonder people are queueing just to dine here, and if you haven’t made it here yet, it’s definitely time to plan a trip down soon!
