Many flock to &JOY Japanese Food Street in Jurong Point for well-loved dining concepts like Sushi-Go, Ramen Kiou, and Gokokou Japanese Bakery. Be it ramen, yakiniku, or teppanyaki, you’re bound to find something that tickles your fancy and satisfies your cravings for Japanese cuisine.
In the mood for something a little different? Tsukimi Hamburg specialises in the unpretentious and comforting hamburg steak, a time-honoured staple in many Japanese households.
Choose between a selection of Donburi, all of which are served alongside Homemade Tamago Soup, and Teishoku (set meals). The set meals are pretty value-for-money, given that they all come with substantial servings of pickles, salad, tamago soup, and Japanese rice.
The signature Tsukimi Hamburg Don (S$12.80) is certainly a sight to behold. Made with a blend of Miyazaki wagyu, pork, and US beef, the hamburg steak is pan-seared, then oven-baked to bring out the juice and flavour, and finally served atop a piping hot bowl of Japanese rice topped with a premium egg yolk air-flown directly from Japan.
Break the wobbly yolk apart and watch it ooze out — it’s #yolkporn at its finest.
The natural beefy flavours of hamburg steak are accentuated with ponzu oroshi in the Classic Hamburg Don, but you can spice it up with either the Wasabi Hamburg Don (S$11.80) or the Spicy Sakura Ebi Hamburg Don (S$11.80), which is topped with sakura ebi, garlic chilli oil, and grated radish.
Alternatively, the fusion menu offerings, namely the Avocado Hamburg Steak Teishoku (S$15.80) and the luxurious Foie Gras Hamburg Steak Teishoku (S$19.80), are also worth a try if you’re the mood for something different.
Another highlight, the Raclette Chez (S$16.80), comprises juicy and succulent hamburg steak slathered in raclette cheese — a truly indulgent and comforting dish I’d gladly order.
Who knows? I may just travel all the way to the West for a taste of these reasonably priced hamburg steaks very soon!
