Is 2022 the year of affordable yakiniku? Some would say so, given that hawker stalls specialising in Japanese-style grilled meats have been popping up all over the island.
Another wallet-friendly yakiniku joint to add to your list is Yugo Yakiniku, which also happens to be the first Muslim-owned fusion barbecue stall in the west.

Housed in a Jurong West kopitiam and run by two former delivery drivers, the stall specialises in all things grilled meat AKA fusion yakiniku (hence the name “yugo” which means fusion in Japanese).

Come by for the yakiniku from 5pm–10pm on weekdays and 11am–10pm on weekends — Yugo Yakiniku offers an assortment of USDA grade and Australian free-range beef and chicken thigh, including the likes of Karubi (S$6), Kata Rosu (S$6), Wagyu Striploin (S$4), and more, alongside your very own portable grill.

Southeast Asian flavours take centre stage in the satay-marinated Chicken Thigh (S$5) and housemade sambal dipping sauce. You can also order Beef (S$4 for 100g) or Chicken Dendeng (S$3.50 for 100g), an Indonesian spiced meat jerky similar to bak kwa, to snack on.
All grilled meats are best enjoyed with add-ons like assorted Mushrooms (S$2), Lettuce (S$2), Onions (S$2), Onsen Egg (S$1.50), and even Marshmallow (S$1.50).

There are four MSG-free rice bowls to choose from: Chicken Aburi Don (S$5.50), Beef Aburi Don (S$6.50), Karubi Don (S$8) and Wagyu Cube Don (S$9.50), all of which are served with sweet corn, Japanese Shiba Zuki pickles, and an onsen egg.

Although all ingredients used are halal, the stall is currently in the process of obtaining halal certification.
Is it time to round up your fellow Westies for a yakiniku dinner that won’t break the bank? I believe it is!
