7-Eleven Singapore has adorable fruit and animal-shaped mousse cakes for just S$4.50 each for a limited time only

Be it a ready-to-eat meal, instant noodle flavour, or sweet treat, there’s always something new to discover at convenience stores. We don’t even need to be in Japan!

For instance, 7-Eleven Singapore has launched a line-up of mousse cakes under the 7-Select brand you probably couldn’t bear to eat.

You’ve got absolutely adorable cakes shaped like teddy bears and a seal, all sleeping on their side, as well as a realistic-looking yuzu fruit.

We couldn’t resist trying the entire line-up, all of which are composed entirely of flavoured mousse, with a fruit and sponge cake filling.

As a fan of all things sour and citrus-forward, I was most eager to try the Yuzu Mousse Cake, comprising yuzu mousse, sponge cake, yuzu jam, and candied yuzu bits.

This was decent, though I would’ve preferred for the yuzu filling to be a more tart and less bitter.

The Teddy Bear-Style Raspberry Chocolate also fared well, consisting of a subtle milk chocolate mousse, raspberry jam, and chocolate sponge. One thing’s for sure — don’t buy this if you’re looking for a dessert that’s ultra-rich and decadent!

I had higher hopes for the Teddy Bear-Style Mango Cheese Mousse Cake, the only cake out of the four launched in collaboration with PABLO, the popular bakery brand from Osaka, Japan, best known for their cheese tarts, but it unfortunately fell flat.

The mango mousse tasted really artificial, with barely any discernible hint of cheese. I’d skip this if I were you.

My colleagues and I unanimously agreed that the seal-shaped Mango & Coconut Mousse Cake was the best-tasting out of the lot.

The combination of light and airy coconut mousse with mango jam and sponge cake was pleasing to the palate. However, as you can see, the ratio of mousse to filling was very, very off — it was pretty much the same for all the cakes, with the exception of the Yuzu Mousse Cake.

These cakes are certainly easy on the eye, but don’t expect much, taste-wise. Still, they’re guaranteed to be a hit with kids and the young at heart.

7-Eleven is currently running a promotion, in which you can get two cakes for S$9 (U.P. S$4.90 each), from now till 31 October 2023. Also, do note that the mousse cakes are only available at selected 7-Eleven stores islandwide, so you might have to do a little bit of hunting if you want to snag all four.
