We’ve gone on and on about the sando craze in Singapore, which really isn’t stopping any time soon. Like it or not, sandwich joints are popping up like crazy all across the island (and I’m here for it!), each offering its own inventive spin on the grab-and-go staple.
In need of an alternative lunch option in the CBD? Slide on down to Absurd Sandwiches in Chinatown for some hearty sandwiches that will have you hollering in delight.
The cloud kitchen concept is located in Central, a tech-enabled food court featuring brands that offer dine-in, takeaway, and delivery. Diners just need to place their orders via the self-service counters or through a unique QR code and collect their food from a contactless collection point — it’s that easy!
You can find a selection of chunky ciabatta sandwiches packed with crowd-pleasing ingredients.
Got a hankering for a good Philly cheesesteak? Go for the signature The Cheesesteak, which comprises thin-sliced ribeye, caramelised onion, cheddar, and absurd sauce. Alternatively, The Cubano (AKA the Cuban sandwich popularised by 2014 movie ‘Chef’), is a smoky and delectable combination of mojo-marinated pork shoulder, cured ham, pickles, provolone cheese, mustard, and absurd sauce.
But if you, like me, can never resist a good fried chicken sandwich, the Crispy Chipotle, a spicy chipotle fried chicken number, will be right up your alley.
Make it a full meal with sides like Buffalo Wings, Spicy Popcorn Chicken, and Mentaiko Fries — we hear the latter boasts a thick, umami, and very addictive mentaiko sauce.
Can’t make it to Chinatown anytime soon? You can place orders for delivery via Foodpanda, Deliveroo, GrabFood, Oddle Eats, and Foodline, and wait for your sandwiches to come to you!
If life seems to be getting a little too absurd these days, perhaps it’s time to seek respite in the form of a sandwich or two.
