If you’ve travelled to Amsterdam, chances are you’ve indulged in patat or friet, thick-cut fries served in a paper cone slathered with sauces and toppings.
Seriously, munching on piping hot fries just hits different (especially on a rainy day).

And now, you can find a local spin on the popular Dutch street snack for your snacking pleasure at the Muslim-owned Frites (stylised as frités) along Arab Street.

It is opened by the folks behind Kream — you’ve probably come across them and their iconic loaded coney dogs at pasar malams and bazaars — which makes this their first proper brick-and-mortar store.

Frites specialises in beef loaded fries in four different sauce variations: Truffle, Cheese, Mentaiko, and Creamy Onion, all of which are priced at S$10 each.
Most tend to go for the Cheesy Loaded Beef, which sees fresh fries topped with shabu shabu-style beef slices, and blanketed in a thick layer of cheese sauce. Super moreish.

Regardless of which flavour you opt for, the combination of crispy (and most importantly, not soggy) fries, tender beef slices, and creamy, savoury sauce is bound to taste oh-so satisfying.

You can also find Kream’s signature Swedish Meatballs (S$10), handmade beef meatballs in a cream sauce with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam. A good alternative to the IKEA meatballs, that’s for sure.
There is no dine-in available, only takeaway, so feel free to explore the area, fries in hand, and maybe hit up Haji Lane for shopping or a photobooth session afterwards!
Will you be popping by Frites on Arab Street for your frites fix anytime soon?
