If there’s one thing Ipoh is renowned for, it is egg tarts.
And now, you’ll no longer need to travel to Ipoh just to satisfy cravings, as the famous Qunkee Biscuits & Bakery has finally opened in Singapore.

Despite having several outlets, including one in Johor Bahru, this is the heritage Ipoh confectionery’s first expansion out of Malaysia, and they’ve set up shop at Space @ Kovan along Yio Chu Kang Road.

You can look forward to an array of tarts, pastries, and biscuits, all of which are freshly baked daily, at promotional prices.

Speaking of egg tarts, are you a fan of the flaky Portuguese Tart (S$2.50), which I prefer, or the crumbly Hong Kong Egg Tart (S$2.20)? Either way, it’s hard to go wrong with the combination of sweet egg custard and buttery pastry!

There’s even a version with Chicken Floss (S$2.60), which I foresee will be a hit with those that enjoy sweet and savoury flavours, alongside “modern” iterations like the Matcha Red Bean Tart (S$2.60), Almond Cocoa Tart (S$2.60), and Bamboo Charcoal Cheese Tart (S$2.60).

However, Qunkee is perhaps best known for their Kaya Puff (S$1.30), a flaky pastry with housemade kaya encased within.

Pair that with the likes of biscuits like Salted Dou Sha Bing (S$0.70), Wife Biscuit (lao po bing, S$1.50), and Fermented Red Bean Curd Biscuit (S$1.50), and you’re all set for a fabulous Ipoh afternoon tea of sorts!

Don’t forget to also pick up a couple of traditional Malaysian snacks, ranging from Sachima (Chinese honey crackers, S$3.50) and heong peah (fragrant pastries) to the famous Ipoh white coffee.
