Kao Ge Yu opens second outlet serving signature Sichuan green pepper grilled fish, bingfen & other affordable Chinese delights

Kao Ge Yu started as a humble hawker stall in January this year serving Chinese grilled fish at very affordable prices, and gained popularity so quickly that they’ve now opened a new outlet at East Village just half a year later!

The highlight of the restaurant’s menu are, of course, their grilled fish dishes. You’ll find that they only use the freshest fish — and since the fish is grilled instead of fried, it’s not oily at all.

If you’re all about the spice, the Signature Sichuan Green Pepper Grilled Fish and Chongqing Grilled Fish are two popular options that come highly-recommended. For Mala-lovers, the Hot Mala Grilled Fish also makes for a satisfying meal with a familiar spicy kick.

As for non-spicy options, choose from the tangy Tomato Grilled Fish, or the aromatic Garlic Grilled Fish

Often, grilled fish is a dish that’s too big to be enjoyed alone, but Kao Ge Yu offers their grilled fish in two portion sizes: a smaller portion suitable for a single person, as well as a bigger portion to be shared amongst a group. The price depends on the sauce and the type of fish, but you can expect to pay about S$15.80 onwards for a small portion and S$25.80 onwards for a big one.

Besides grilled fish, the new outlet also serves other classic Chinese dishes such as Cucumber Salad (S$8.80) and Potato Floss (S$8.80). The Century Egg Tofu (S$8.80), in particular, is a must-try. Or, if you’re feeling especially adventurous, maybe try the Pig Tongue (S$12.80) and see how it goes!

The perfect way to end your meal comes in the form of a refreshing bingfen (ice jelly) dessert. Try the Strawberry Ice Cream Bing Fen (S$6.80), a delightful sweet treat served with strawberries, strawberry biscuit sticks, and a scoop of ice cream.

The restaurant is new, but it’s already gotten rave reviews, and we’re not surprised. For some quality Chinese cuisine that won’t break the bank, head to Kao Ge Yu at East Village!
