Self-service ramen joints are becoming really popular these days, especially across the causeway.
One store we’ve been seeing a lot of on social media is MeeTime, a self-service instant noodle joint in Setiah Indah, located about a 35-minute drive from the JB checkpoint.
The bright and airy eatery, which sports plenty of seating and noodle-cooking machines, has an eye-catching “ramen wall” lined with over 100 varieties of instant noodles at varying prices.
For instance, the Maggi range is priced at S$0.83 (RM2.90), while the selection of Samyang Buldak fire noodles are S$2.27 (RM7.90) per packet.
Afterwards, take your pick of individually wrapped toppings (S$0.25, RM0.90) like fish chilli paste balls, chicken siew mai, squid rolls, chicken cheese sausage, kimchi dumplings, and even onsen eggs, just to name a few.
You also notice a couple of S$0.28 (RM1) items like hotate scallop, cheese slices, and mozzarella cheese.
In fact, why not make it a whole meal by topping up S$0.86 (RM3) for ice cream (U.P. S$0.43, RM1.50) and unlimited drink refills? Do note that this free-flow option doesn’t apply to the canned soft drinks in the chiller, though.
You’ll then be handed paper containers and cutlery after making payment; you’ll notice that the containers are even equipped with special “holes” in the lid for draining water (in the preparation of dry noodles).
Oh, and MeeTime also provides free shallots for you to spruce up your noodles!
If you’re still feeling peckish, end on a sweet note with crispy DIY Waffles (S$1.43, RM5), which you can opt to be slathered in sauces like chocolate, kaya, and blueberry jam.
