Pet-friendly self-photo studio Photobytes has a nostalgic darkroom-themed photobooth concept with unlimited photo strips

Let’s face it: self-photo studios are taking over.

And if there’s one place to visit, it’s Haji Lane, a buzzy hotspot for studios offering everything, from the trendy top-down wide angle to wild and wacky thematic booths.

Photobytes is one of the more popular self-photo studios along the stretch. Not only are they pet-friendly, but they’re also a go-to for many looking to take professional self-shoot sessions.

However, they’ve also got a more informal photobooth decked out in different ever-changing themes. It used to be vintage (perfect for lovers of all things retro), and now, they’ve just launched an exciting darkroom concept that’ll transport you back in time!

Photobytes’ unique darkroom photobooth certainly looks the part, given that it features decor and pieces of equipment those who’ve been in an actual darkroom may recognise, like vintage film cameras, bottles of “development” chemicals, a glowing red safelight, and even an enlarger (also called a projection printer).

You can also find a modest assortment of props to choose from, even though you might have to get creative and come dressed the part to really evoke “old-school photographer” vibes (if that’s what you’re going for).

Each 15-minute session entitles you to an unlimited number of shots for S$20 with a maximum of four people. There are six unique frame designs with both coloured and B&W options to choose from, so it’s up to you to see how many different frames you can get within the time period!

As such, if you visit in a group of four, each person will only need to fork out S$5! Very value-for-money, if you ask me.

One frame design even comes with a photocard that makes for a wholesome keepsake.

However, do note that you won’t be able to just walk in to the studio and start shooting at the photobooth — at this point in time, at least. Bookings will need to be made here.

So, if you’ve always wanted to shoot in a darkroom, let Photobytes be the next self-photo studio on your radar!
