Are you the sort that demands souvenirs every time your friends, family and/or colleagues travel to Japan?
Now you’ll have one less thing to ask for.
A famous cookie brand from Tokyo, Press Butter Sand, will be making its first foray into Singapore on 8 December 2023, at none other than the food hall in Basement 2 of Takashimaya.
With close to 30 stores in Japan and Hong Kong, the brand is really popular amongst travellers.
But if you’ve never heard of ’em, Press Butter Sand specialises in square-shaped sandwich butter cookies with buttercream and caramel. Uniquely, they’re made by being pressed in between iron griddles, which yields a crispy texture and uniform appearance.
Prices start from S$22.50 for a box of five, and you can look forward to three flavours being launched in Singapore: Original, Chocolate, and Uji Matcha. We hear Strawberry will be offered in 2024 — perhaps in the springtime.
If you’ve yet to try any of the cookies, go for the Original first, which features the signature buttercream and caramel.
Those who love all things dark and decadent will probably head straight for the Chocolate, comprising chocolate-infused caramel and buttercream sandwiched in between butter cookies laced with cocoa powder.
Perhaps if the demand is meet, the brand will consider bringing in some of the other flavours available in Japan, such as Lemon, Passionfruit, and Chestnut, all of which sound absolutely divine.
