Have you ever seen desserts that are just too pretty to be eaten? Well, wait till you see the gorgeous galaxy cake from Rachelrax Cakes. This popular home baking business now has a brick and mortar store in Serangoon serving all their pretty bakes inspired by popular local flavours like orh nee, kaya toast, chendol, soya pudding, and more!

Rachelrax Cakes’ shop space is decked in shades of pink which looks like it’s right out of the Barbie franchise. There’s even a little cartoon girl on the wall together with the words “Dessert Calories Don’t Count” — honestly, truer words have never been spoken.

On the menu are all their signature bakes, though on a weekly rotation. If you spot your favourite cake on the menu, we recommend that you place a pre-order to run down to grab it immediately as their cakes often sell out pretty quickly — yes, that’s how popular they are.

The prettiest cake here (in my opinion) is the Galaxy Glazed Dome (S$8.70). The galaxy glaze looks like it was plucked straight out of the sky and the attention to detail is truly mesmerising.

The dome is essentially a soft chocolate sponge cake glazed in a very pretty and glittery purple-blue glaze. Inside, is a rich dark chocolate mousse complete with hazelnut crunch. This cake will certainly take your love for chocolate cakes out of this world.

They also have mini domes (from S$16.80). If chocolate isn’t for you, the Pastel Galaxy Glazed Whole Cake (from S$47), which is a pretty pink and lavender hued lemon passionfruit cake — sounds really refreshing!

Another crowd favourite here is the Orh Nee Tart (S$8.90). If you’re a lover of the traditional Orh Nee dessert, or just love anything orh nee-related in general, this tart should be right up your alley. It is made with the quintessential ingredients like yam and coconut cream, topped with a ginkgo nut.

I’m not the biggest fan of orh nee but even I am intrigued to see how this fairs among the many other orh nee tart contenders out there.

Where are my fellow speculoos lovers at? Rachelrax’s selection of tarts also includes a Speculoos Cookie Tart (S$8.50) which is the ultimate cookie lovers’ dream. If you think the Speculoos filling paired with the cookie tart base isn’t enough, the tart is complete with lotus biscuit crumbs sprinkled on top — cookie monster(s) would absolutely love this.

Other unique (and equally pretty) desserts on the menu include a Chamomile Cheesecake (S$8.70), Yuzu Meringue tart (S$8.90), Matcha Adzuki (S$8.90), Passionfruit Mango (S$8.50), and Lychee Rose (S$8.50). Durian lovers must try their Pure MSW Durian Puffs (S$24.80) which come in a box of 12 pieces
