Have you been craving those thick cream waffles sold in Korean street fairs? Look no further, because The Gula Lab serves thick and chewy mochi waffles, just a few minutes walk away from Potong Pasir MRT.

This neighbourhood dessert spot specialises in Taiwan-inspired smoothies and Korean-style cream mochi waffles. Of course, all waffles are made fresh upon each order, so you won’t be getting soggy or stale waffles.

Tucked away in a residential area, it’s quite literally a hidden gem (we were lost until we found a huge poster with directions).
There are only four stools and benches outside, so we recommend taking your waffles to the nearby hawker centre to savour your snack.

Lactose intolerant? Don’t miss out on this spot, because The Gula Lab uses non-dairy cream imported from Korea.
Regular dairy cream gets a little heavy, but this light and non-oily cream allowed us to wolf down our waffles in record time.
The backstory behind the store is so adorable — helmed by the owner’s father previously as a fruit stall, it was also where her parents met.

I’m happy to announce that the waffles here aren’t cloyingly sweet. We were told that the Half portion is similar to a McDonald’s burger, while the Full portion is about the size of a six-inch Subway sandwich.
The Honey Egg Mayo (S$7.50 for Half, S$10.80 for Full) is the owner’s favourite flavour and the only savoury option on the menu. Don’t knock it till you try it, because this was one of our top favourites.

My personal pick is the Gula Melaka with Coconut (S$5.50 for Half, S$8.80 for Full) with housemade gula melaka. The crunchy coconut with the chewy waffles was truly a match made in heaven.

We also tried the Lotus Biscoff (S$5.50 for Half, S$8.80 for Full), which was loaded with Biscoff crumbs for that additional crunch.

For something fruity, the Korean Apple Jam (S$5.50 for Half, S$8.80 for Full) is both tangy and sweet.

I was eager to try their popular smoothies, especially the Taiwanese-inspired Mung Bean Smoothie. Unfortunately, their popular smoothies are taking a break now, but are set to return soon.
Our verdict? The Gula Lab is a must-visit spot for fresh waffles that are crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and addictively yummy.
