Not sure where to eat? When in doubt, go for tonkatsu or gyukatsu. We’ve put together a list of our go-to spots, so you can pick the one that suits your mood and your appetite.

We tried the Classic Rosu Tonkatsu Set 200g (S$33) and Classic Hire Tonkatsu Set 120g (S$29); both had a crisp exterior and an incredibly tender interior.

The best part? Rice and cabbage are refillable, giving you a perfect excuse to try their umami In-House Special Japanese Curry (S$5) that paired well with the rice and worked as a dipping sauce for the tonkatsu.

Prefer a variety of fancy Tonkatsu? Shin Katsu has a table for you. The Gensen Set (S$38) and Gokusen Set (S$48) are built for those who love an assortment of premium cuts in every bite.

The journey starts with the Cold Japanese Tofu, Potato Salad, and Truffle Edamame. The second course is a curated selection of 5 pork cutlets, followed by mini curry rice with a Wagyu beef minced cutlet. The meal ended with the classic Matcha ice cream.

Katsu By Kyu brings Jeju pork to you, minus the flight. The Classic Jeju Loin (S$36) features a balanced, juicy cut, and Jeju Tenderloin (S$35) is the leanest and most tender cut available. The menu uses Japanese tonkatsu techniques with Korean-sourced ingredients and features Jeju pork wet-aged for 240 hours!

With 12 condiments and free-flow rice, cabbage, and miso soup, snag their Weekday Lunch Special before 4pm – Australian Tenderloin (S$35) with an onsen egg. If beef isn’t your thing, opt for the Premium Seafood Set (S$39) featuring salmon, unagi, ebi, and soft-shell crab.

Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu cooks up beef that’s crispy on the outside and medium-rare on the inside. 2 recommended ways to go: the Chuck Flap + Sirloin Set (S$29) for the most flavourful part of the shoulder cut, or the Beef Tongue + Sirloin (S$32) with a generous cut of beef tongue and a texture you won’t find elsewhere.

Apart from unique cuts like Chuck Flap and Beef Tongue, there’s also Sirloin, Tenderloin, and A5 Japanese Wagyu Beef Sirloin.
