Tuk Tuk Gai serves up crispy Thai fried chicken at wallet-friendly prices from a Sengkang coffeeshop

The taste, aroma, and texture of fried chicken is unparalleled — it is the one comfort food I absolutely cannot get enough of.

Here’s an alternative to the usual Western and Korean-style fried chicken we’re all too familiar with — Tuk Tuk Gai in Sengkang.

Opened by the team behind Thai-Chinese zi char restaurant Yaowarat Seafood, this relatively new stall in a Sengkang coffeeshop specialises in the glorious, glorious Thai fried chicken you can find along the streets of Bangkok.

You’ll be blown away by the crispy, golden brown fried chicken marinated with Thai herbs that takes centre stage here.

Go for the full, unadulterated experience with the Thai Fried Chicken Wings (S$3.80 for 2pcs, S$9.60 for 6pcs), Thai Fried Spring Chicken (S$8.90 for half, S$15.90 for whole), or *gasp* my all-time favourite snack to indulge in, Thai Fried Chicken Skin (S$3).

Diners can essentially find different variations of fried chicken (like cutlet, wings, and spring chicken) served with coconut or chicken rice, all at wallet-friendly prices.

I can see the Coconut Rice with Wings (S$5.90) — Thai fried chicken wings and coconut rice served alongside chilli, ikan billis, peanuts, shallots, and a sunny side-up — being a huge hit with nasi lemak lovers (the resemblance is uncanny, and I’m all for it).

You can even opt to switch things up and enjoy your fried chicken with pad thai, tom yum fried rice, or vermicelli.

Not feeling fried chicken (but why)? Choose from a modest selection of equally affordable Thai dishes, such as Tom Yum Seafood Noodles Soup (S$6.90) and Basil Chicken or Pork with Rice (S$6.90), as well as two classic Thai desserts.

Those living in Hougang, Sengkang, or Punggol can also get fried chicken delivered to their doorstep — what luck!
