What do you get when you combine elements of a step tracker, a video game, and a social networking app? The result is Charlie – Walking Charlie, an app that has recently gained popularity among some of our friend groups and is rising up Health & Fitness app charts.
If you’ve never heard of Walking Charlie, or just vaguely know about it, allow us to tell you more about our latest obsession.
Charlie
Meet Charlie. Everyone who uses Walking Charlie has one of their own. It is your digital avatar that reflects how much you have walked recently and how ‘fit’ you are. Charlie starts out a little chubby, but will slim down or gain weight, depending on how active you have been.
This is achieved by Walking Charlie tracking your steps; the more you walk, the healthier Charlie will appear. Walk enough steps, and Charlie will even have abs.
Missions and Rewards
To motivate you to stay active, Walking Charlie also has weekly and daily Missions for you to complete. These usually require you to hit some walking goals, but may also include tasks you can complete by interacting with other features of the app.
Completing these Missions will reward you with Stars, Badges, and Donuts. Stars and Badges are more for your own sense of accomplishment, and so you have something to flex to your friends about. Donuts, on the other hand, are what you will need to dress Charlie up!
Customise Charlie
One of the most appealing aspects of Walking Charlie is the wide variety of customisation options for your avatar, complemented by a pleasant and cute pixel art style. Within Charbucks, which is the item store in Walking Charlie, you will find all kinds of costumes, outfits, and decorations to express yourself and make your Charlie unique.
There are even animals and pets you can give Charlie, as well as backgrounds you can place all of them in. All you need is enough Donuts to purchase them all. Time to start walking!
Build a Charlie Town
Here’s what makes Walking Charlie even more fun and interactive than your average step tracker. You can also use your Donuts to build a Charlie Town with friends! Yes — you can create Houses and add Friends to them, or join someone else’s House.
Whoever is in the same House can choose to deposit their Donuts and together progressively upgrade their House and its capacity. You will start out with a small tent before upgrading to a trailer, inn, and bigger houses.
There is also a separate Footprint feature that allows you and your friends to share photos of your walks with one another.
We are pretty sure that some of you are already convinced and downloading Walking Charlie as we speak. Just one more thing before you go — make sure to use a friend’s referral code when you sign up to get extra Donuts for a head start!
