Given the popularity of casual yakiniku chain restaurants in Singapore, it is safe to say that one can indeed enjoy Japanese yakiniku without breaking the bank. Here’s an affordable charcoal grill experience for North-siders near Admiralty MRT — Yakiniku Kura.
The 785E Woodlands Rise Food Paradise coffeeshop setting may not be the most well-ventilated, but one must be willing to compromise for charcoal yakiniku.
Yakiniku Kura has set meals, large platters, and a la carte options that can cater to both solo diners and large groups. The set menu selection is particularly extensive, with crowd favourites like the “Shiok” Rib Set (from $14.80), Karubi Set (from S$8.80), and the Beef & Pork Set (from S$8.80).
Do note that all sets are served with rice, soup, and a side dish (usually kimchi) for a complete meal.
I’d personally order the Wagyu Beef Steak Set (from S$18.80) or Hokkaido Snow Pork Belly (from S$9.80), because how can one resist quality meats at such reasonable prices?
Spoilt for choice or have more than two hungry mouths to feed? Order a yakiniku platter and eat your fill of beef, pork, and/or chicken. All platters are also served with three dipping sauces — yakiniku sauce, sweet sauce and ponzu sauce.
Go for the bestselling Premium Beef Platter (from S$35.80 for small) and tuck into generous servings of shortplate, chuck eye roll, oyster blade, beef tongue, meltique striploin, and shortrib. You can also top up S$15 for 100g of premium wagyu (and you totally should).
Students get to enjoy discounted sets from 2.30pm–5.30pm on weekdays — simply present your student pass before ordering. CDC vouchers can also be utilised here.
Japanese yakiniku in the North is certainly hard to come by, so look no further if you’re in for a smokin’ and sizzlin’ good time.
