Dine on authentic Yanbian skewers, grilled fish, cold noodles and homemade drinks from just S$0.99 at this camping-style BBQ restaurant

It’s no secret that we love our hotpot, lok lok, claypot la la and Thai boat noodles for our late-night suppers or when we need a savoury treat after a night out.

Recently, a new contender has joined the ranks of our favourite late-night eats: Chinese BBQ skewers, specifically Yanbian-style BBQ.

Yanbian-style barbecue stands apart from its standard counterpart due to its distinctive blend of spices.

79号烧烤 Chuaner Talk is located along Flanders Square Road at Farrer Park. Simply head to the back of City Square Mall and look for a storefront adorned with neon lights and playful Chinese signages — trust me, you won’t be able to miss it.

As you step inside, you’ll be greeted by a camping-style interior, with fishing nets suspended on the ceiling. Seating here is strictly low metal chairs and tables, ideal for that authentic street food experience — though comfort might take a backseat!

Choose from a wide variety of meat and vegetable skewers, all going for just S$0.99 per stick. All of them are well-marinated with their signature seasoning of Yanbian spices.

Don’t worry, non-spicy options are offered too!

Classic favourites like Pork Belly, Cuttlefish Balls, Prawns, Chicken Fingers, Green Peppers and many more are all available here. And, of course, no meal is complete without ordering some Mantou.

If the heat is getting to you, do order their Yanbian Cold Noodles (S$7.90) on the side. Other cold dishes you can dig into include refreshing Smashed Cucumbers (S$7.90) and Boiled Edamame (S$7.90).

Their variety of Grilled Fishes (S$37.90) is perfect when you need something a little more filling. Choose from four flavours: Spicy, Pepper and Sesame Seeds, Garlic and Pickled Cabbage. The generous portion also makes it great for sharing with friends too!

While beers might be your drink of choice, I’d recommend opting for the homemade drinks this time round. The Perfume Lemon Yakult (S$4.79) is a crowd favourite here but the Ice Lemon Tea (S$4.79) and Oolong Milk Tea (S$4.79) can’t go wrong.

I probably don’t need to tell you but this place is a supper hotspot — thanks to its unbeatable prices. Plus, they’re open till 12am daily too!

Are you gonna bring your friends down for some mouthwatering Yanbian-style BBQ?
