East-siders, you might be familiar with Morphine Coffee, which used to occupy a kiosk at PLQ Plaza doling out black sesame toasts and freshly roasted coffee. If you’ve been missing their brews, I’ve got good news — the folks behind the kiosk have rebranded themselves as 8Bar Espresso and are now at the neighbouring Singpost Centre!
From decor to menu items, the café has a unique take on the usual East-meets-West theme. You’ll even see the quintessential red cabinets that TCMs use to store their medicinal herbs — but don’t worry, your food won’t come out tasting bitter.
If you’re planning to make a trip down, you defo have to check out their specialty coffee. You can expect to be spoilt for choice with their large selection of coffees like pour-overs, cold brews, and more. If you’re feeling bold, go for their Pistachio Pineapple Latte (from S$9) from their ‘Adventurous Lattes’ options! This latte comprises pineapple plus pistachio paste and crumbs — sounds like a party in my mouth!
Non-coffee drinkers, don’t fret — there’s something for you too. Their pure tea options include Taiwan-inspired Alisan Oolong tea (from S$4.50) and Japan-inspired Matcha or Hojicha teas (from S$5), and they even have Fruit Tea Sodas like Mango & Ginger (S$8.50).
Since their rebranding, 8Bar Espresso has also added hot dishes like freshly baked bagels and milk bread sandos to their fusion menu. One of the most popular options is the unique Black Mango Toast (S$11), which has mango and sesame bits, black sesame spread, cream cheese, and whipped cream — the combination of sweet and savoury will definitely hit the spot!
Want something more filling than a sandwich? Opt for rice bowls like Braised Pork Bowl (S$16), OG Beef Bowl (S$19) and Deep Dive Bowl (S$19), which has tiger prawns and scallops (yum!).
You can also get some delectable side dishes like Lu Rou Fries (braised pork fries, S$13) and Prawn Potato Gratin (S$13.50) to complete your meal.
