Indulge in thick & chunky artisanal fatcarons with seasonal flavours like black sesame, liu sha bao & tau huey, alongside decadent durian desserts at Sweedy Patisserie in Hougang

I’m sure you’ve heard of macarons — but what about fatcarons?

Established in 2019, Sweedy Patisserie is a successful online bakery that opened a physical café at Hougang Rivercourt in December 2022 specialising in the popular sweet treat.

Instead of the usual macarons you can find at practically every patisserie or bakery out there, Sweedy goes one step further with their famed fatcarons, a decadent twist on the classic French pastries comprising airy shells filled with rich buttercream.

Imagine having similarly crisp and light shells, but with a lot more ultra sweet and creamy buttercream loaded with extra fillings that ooze out once you take a bite — I don’t know about you, but that’s enough reason for me to head down.

The range of fatcarons available tend to be seasonal, so you can expect to be greeted by different flavours depending on when you visit! Previous fatcaron offerings include unique flavours like Liu Sha Bao (with a molten salted egg core), Kopi and even local dessert-inspired Tau Huey and Pulut Hitam.

Their current CNY lineup features festive offerings like Pineapple Tart, Ondeh Ondeh, Bak Kwa with Maple Syrup and more (with prices starting from S$5). If these flavours sound appealing to you, be sure to head down before the end of January 2023 to try them out.

Opt for their box of 6 if you can’t decide on a single flavour — they also make great gifts for friends and family!

Fellow durian fans, you’ll be delighted to know that they also have a glorious selection of Mao Shan Wang (MSW) desserts. Apart from MSW fatcarons (S$6.50), Sweedy is also known for its signature MSW Mousse Cake that starts from S$14.80 per slice. Plus, there’s even a vegan version available!

If you’re feeling peckish, the bakery has also ventured into a savoury brunch menu that’s available from 11am to 6pm. It’s rather concise with only three items — Beef Melt (S$16), Breakfast Sammie (S$13) and Sweedy Eggs Benedict (S$17/18) — perfect for those who are always super indecisive when ordering (like I am).

Wondering what’s on the menu next month? Whatever flavour it is, it’s bound to impress.
