Think fast: if you could book a flight to anywhere in the world, where would you go?

The first country that would pop into anyone’s mind is Japan. But as life would have it, air fares to the land of the rising sun (or anywhere in the world) have been sky high — current air fares to Japan on airlines like Singapore Airlines, ANA, and JAL start from an eye-watering S$900.

If you’re looking for a pocket-friendly option, there’s now a new low cost carrier to put on your radar — Air Japan

You might have heard of Air Japan before, as they’ve actually been around since 1990 but only recently rebranded as a low-cost carrier. They’re currently acquired under ANA which makes them a competitor to JAL’s own low-cost carrier, ZipAir

Air Japan recently announced that they will be launching flights between Singapore and Tokyo’s Narita Airport, with fares starting from just S$179what a steal!

Flights between Singapore’s Changi Airport and Tokyo’s Narita Airport will begin on 26 April 2024, and there will be a total of five flights scheduled to depart in each direction per week — on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

One of the most important things I look out for when booking my flights is the flight timing, and Air Japan has some pretty ideal flight timings in my opinion.

Flights from Singapore depart at 12.55am and arrive in Tokyo at 9.10am, while flights from Tokyo depart at 5.35pm and arrive in Singapore at 11.55pm. Honestly, these timings are great for those who are looking to maximise their time spent in the country or wanna catch some sleep on board and wake up in a different country.

Price-wise, Air Japan has three fare types for you to choose from — Simple, Standard and Selected — with their own base price. Prices from the Simple fare start from S$179 and include up to 7kg of carry-on baggage allowance.

The Standard fare starts from S$217 and includes 7kg carry-on baggage allowance, advance seat selection and a single check-in baggage allowance of up to 23kg. For those who are looking to sleep the whole flight, this fare is perfect for you.

The Selected fare — and probably the most value-for-money fare type — starts from S$264 and includes 7kg carry-on baggage allowance, up to two pieces of check-in luggage (up to 23kg), advance seat selection and in-flight meals

And while we’re on the topic of food, Selected fare type passengers can look forward to being served meals like an omakase sushi box, hamburger steak with rice gratin, teriyaki salmon, and more! Who says airplane food is always bad?

As for in-flight entertainment, passengers can enjoy various in-flight entertainment options when they purchase Air Japan’s in-flight WiFi package. Otherwise, you can always pre-load your devices with your favourite Netflix shows and K-Dramas to keep you (or your cranky kids ) entertained during the flight.

Currently, Air Japan only allows bookings for flights between 26 April and 26 October 2024. So, if you’re looking for a reason to take leave, why not take advantage of these cheap fares and go on a little holiday?
