Here’s the thing — I have a really weird obsession with convenience stores.
For instance, I seek comfort from YouTube videos of content creators doing mukbangs in Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese convenience stores. I always visit Korean convenience store chain CU whenever I head into Johor Bahru for my fix of pouch drinks, snacks, and instant ramyeon.
So of course, when the news broke that one of the most popular convenience store chains in South Korea, emart24, was finally coming to Singapore, it was hard to contain myself.
There are only two posts on emart24 Singapore’s official Facebook page so far, with the most recent one stating that the outlets will be opening in Jurong Point on 23 December, and NEX on 24 December 2022, from 12pm onwards.
emart24 has over 30 outlets in Malaysia, so it’s high time we had a proper Korean convenience store on our shores.
Although the chain is best known for its fresh food, coffee, snacks, and daily necessities, including a selection of ready-to-eat Korean fare like sandwiches and gimbap, no details have been released regarding products sold at the Singapore outlets.
But if we take a thing or two from what’s available at emart24 Malaysia, you can look forward to the signature Cupbap (bibimbap in a cup perfect for eating on the go), Korean corndogs, fishcake skewers (eomuk), assorted Samgak Gimbap (kind of like Korean onigiri), and so much more!
I can’t wait to get my fix of Korean street food and snacks at these two outlets, and hopefully, we’ll see even more popping up all around Singapore over the first half of 2023!
