Experience the Marina Bay skyline & i Light artworks at night like never before with this three-night only dragon boat expedition in June 2024

by Sheree Chua

There’s no denying that the Marina Bay skyline is beautiful, even more so at night when the city lights are twinkling. Whether you’re on a paktor or simply with your family or friends, you’re probably walking around Merlion Park, Marina Barrage or Marina East Park to get such a view.

What if I were to say that you can get a view of the night-time skyline from a different perspective?

For just three nights only on 8,16 and 23 June 2024, this dream can be a reality with the glow-in-the-dark ‘Glow PAddledragon boat expedition, organised by the People’s Association in lieu of their 50th Anniversary.

Don’t worry, as you don’t have to be an experienced dragon boater. In fact, this event is suitable for even the most unathletic of people.

The only requirement is that the expedition is open to those between the ages of 12 and 70.

Priced S$30 per person for PAssion card members ($45 for non-members), you’ll be paddling along the Marina Bay waters from 5pm to 10pm, where you can get unrestricted sunset and evening views of Singapore’s iconic landmarks, such as the Fullerton Hotel, Singapore Flyer, and of course, MBS.

Take it from me when I say this is also a perfect opportunity to get a glimpse of some of i Light’s artworks and the Spectra light show without having to squeeze through the crowds.

If you have any concerns about safety, don’t worry, as you’ll be in safe hands with certified dragon boat trainers, who’ll be guiding you throughout the trip. On top of that, you’ll each be wearing a personal flotation device.

Simply turn up in sports attire — do note that jeans and non-covered shoes (sandals are fine) are strictly not allowed!

I can’t confidently assure you that you won’t get wet during or after the expedition, so it’s highly recommended to bring along an extra set of clothes just in case. For those wondering, yes, there are shower facilities available on-site.

Other items you should have with you include a water bottle and a waterproof phone pouch (because, duh, you’ll definitely be taking tons of photos).

To book your slot, you can register using Singpass via the links below:

Just a heads up: there are no refunds or rescheduling of tickets if you can’t make it or if the weather’s bad, so fingers crossed!

Will you be giving this after-dark dragon boat activity a try?
