There’s just something exhilarating about racing around on a go-kart (or even the luge ride at Sentosa), whether you’re in it to win it or being cheeky and annoying with some ‘accidentally on purpose’ bumper car action with your favourite people.

And while we do have go-kart tracks in Singapore, if you’re looking for *ahem* slightly more affordable go-kart experiences (thank you, exchange rate gods), plan a date and time to head across the border and get your heart racing as you whizz down these tracks!

1. RUD Karting (Racing Underdog)

Coming in hot at the top of our list is RUD Karting, also known as Racing Underdog with their professional 840m go-karting track with 16 turns. Especially great for those who often find themselves entering Johor Bahru at a later time, one of the best parts of this establishment is that it’s open daily till 2am – perfect for burning off those supper calories.

And don’t worry if you have no driving or racing experience, the Basic Kart (S$17.20/RM55 for a 10-minute session, S$42.20/RM135 for 3 sessions) is suitable for first-timers, goes at a speed of up to 60km/h, and you won’t need a licence to drive it.

There are also special 2-seater Twins Cart (S$23.45/RM75 for a 10-minute session) so you can race with your special someone by your side. The kart has two steering wheels so both parties get to steer, and can travel at up to 55km/h. For karting pros, the karting place also has more advanced carts such as the B Super Stage Kart and the Advance+ Kart for you to race at top speed.

When you’re here, you’ll also find their in-house cafe, The RUD Cafe and Bistro, where you can grab a bite if you’re feeling hungry before or after all that racing. Dine on unique dishes such as Frittata Swordfish Pasta (S$10/RM31.90) and Grapefruit Nasi Goreng with Freshwater Prawn (S$13.40/RM42.90) in the cosy cafe as you watch the karts race through the circuit!

5. PLSC Drift

It’s not often where you’ll find a full karting arena located within a shopping mall. But, PLSC Drift’s newest outlet proves to be a real game changer. Located inside AEON Mall, just a stone’s throw away from the checkpoint, you can enjoy a thrilling ride in an air-conditioned space and away from the sun.

The circuit comprises several sharp twists and turns which will certainly put your skills and agility to the test. On the bright side, you’ll get to drift on the track — can you say no to that?

To add to the fun and thrilling vibes, the entire space is also decked in neon LED lights — it’s giving Rainbow Road course in Mario Kart 8 kinda vibes. Price wise, it’s S$5.13 (RM18) for five minutes, and S$8.54 (RM30) for 10 minutes — I mean, with these prices, need I say more?

GT Karting Entertainment is the latest addition in the JB go-karting scene and is already proving to be a real game changer. They’re conveniently located opposite the popular Toppen Shopping Centre, perfect for the boyfriends to pass some time while the ladies do their shopping.

The entire race track stretches over 400m-long and comprises a series of tight twists and turns, which makes the drive even more challenging. While it might sound intimidating, the track is safe even for those who aren’t pro racers or can’t drive. They even have kid-friendly karts for the kids to join in the race too.

Prices for the go kart rides start from just S$15.73 (RM55) for 10 minutes for the standard kart, and S$12.90 (RM45) for 10 minutes for the junior karts .GT Karting also has a Twin Kart which allows for two riders and costs S$22.31 (RM78) for 10 minutes.

Each session lasts eight minutes and kids will get to put their driving skills to the test as they manoeuvre through a series of twists and turns. Kids under 100cm will have to be accompanied by an adult. The kiddy karts come equipped with a full dashboard for kids to learn about road safety.

The space is also open for event bookings, like children’s birthday parties — even I would like to have a go kart-themed birthday party. If you wanna find out if your kid inherited your road rage or terrific driving skills, bring them down to KF Kiddy Circuit and you’ll have your answer.

8. Plentong Karting

Plentong Karting might not be the newest place in the karting scene but they’re one of the OGs in the industry — so you know they’re reliable. Apart from being one of the industry veterans, they’ve also got the longest karting track in Malaysia, spanning over 1.4km-long complete with 14 turns.

Unlike most tracks where overtaking is discouraged, here, the massive tracks provide plenty of opportunities for overtaking to help keep the race exciting. All I can say is, don’t take your eyes off the road and your feet off the pedal if you wanna win. They also have different routes available, with varying difficulty levels to cater to all drivers.

Rates for a 10-minute session start from S$12.01 (RM42) for beginner classes and kid karts. Plentong Karting also has  other rides available like ATV and buggy rides from S$18.60 (RM265) for one hour

Mark your calendars and set a date for a great day out in Johor Bahru sometime soon!
