Me & My Roro is an affordable late-night hand roll and tapas bar in Johor Bahru serving salmon rolls, curried scallops & more

Who wouldn’t say no to a quick getaway in Johor Bahru, especially during a long weekend?

It’s without a doubt that JB is every foodie’s paradise as you can always find plenty of affordable fare to satisfy all your cravings. I mean we have a plethora of lok lok stalls, supper spots, unique cafes, and so much more just across the borders.

However, if you’ve exhausted your list of food spots to visit or are simply bored of your usual cafe haunts, this hidden bar might just be what you’re looking for.

Just ten minutes from the checkpoint, Me & My Roro is a late-night Japanese bar that specialises in hand rolls and tapas using the freshest quality ingredients.

If I’m being honest, I haven’t seen many tapas bars around JB, especially one that closes at 2am daily so it’s a refreshing concept and definitely worth saving for your next supper fix.

Start off your dinner with their signature Roro menu starting from just S$4.55 (RM16)

There’s a decent range of selections to choose from such as the Salmon Roro (S$4.55, RM16) which comprises salmon, mango salsa, ebiko, and spicy mayo or Tempura Roro (S$4.55, RM16) with ebi tempura, spring onion, and curry mayo.

However, if you’re feeling bougie or treating yourself to a well-deserved self care day, get the Uni Roro (S$25.06, RM88) topped with sweet and creamy uni and ikura.

For those who are bringing company, they also offer small bites and sharing platters like the Ebi Sando and KFC Collar for S$7.97 (RM28) each.

The latter certainly sounds interesting as they seem to have put their own creative twist by using a unique blend of shiso pepper and spices inspired by KFC.

As someone who doesn’t eat seafood often, the butter-seared Curried Scallop (S$19.37, RM68) with crisps and mantou does seem appetising enough for me to try it out.

Not to mention, the Buttery Chicken Karaage (S$6.55, RM23) — fried chicken thigh coated in creamy buttercream sauce — looks good enough to wolf down especially after a couple of drinks.

Although Me & My Roro specialises in hand rolls and tapas, they do have main dishes like noodles and mini donburi bowls if you’re feeling extra peckish.

Wash it all down with drinks like highball and shochu (not to be confused with soju). Choose from classic flavours like grape, honey pineapple, sour lychee, and citrus tonic from just S$6.26 (RM22).

Besides the enticing dinner menu, the bar holds live performances daily, so get ready for local singers and DJs to grace your night with electrifying beats and soulful melodies.

If you haven’t already made any weekend plans, this seems like a perfect hangout spot with friends or families.

Are you ready to groove and dine?
