St Patrick’s Day Street Festival returns to Boat Quay with free pints of Guinness, live entertainment, hearty Irish pub grub, and exclusive merch to be won

by Marcus Leong

What comes to mind when you hear the words “St Patrick’s Day”? For me, it’s the iconic green Irish cap (or the leprechaun hat), lots of beer, and cheers from the pubs. Good news to beer fans! After a three-year hiatus, the St Patrick’s Day festivities are back at Boat Quay in full swing. Singapore River One and Guinness are partnering up to bring you a St Paddy’s Day that is even bigger and more exciting than before.

This year, St Patrick’s Day falls on 17 March 2023, which also happens to be a Friday – there’s no better way to celebrate TGIF than with a pint of beer. You don’t have to be Irish to join in the festivities — all you need is a good pint of Irish beer.

Don’t fret, for Guinness and Muddy Murphy’s has got you covered with a special promotion that will raise the roof and get the party started.

From 1759 hours (5.59pm), revellers at the Irish institution will receive free pints of smooth and creamy Guinness. But here’s the catch – the promotion only lasts for 17 minutes and 59 seconds, so make sure you come at the right time if you want to snag some free beers.

But why specifically 17 minutes and 59 seconds? That’s because Guinness originated in the brewery of Arthur Guinness at St James’s Gate in 1759 – hence the very precise timing. The street will also be closed on 17 March at 6pm for diners to dine along the streets at participating outlets like Hero’s, Mogambo Bar & Restaurant, Molly Malone’s, and Drunk Skunk bar & Bistro.

That’s not all that will be happening on St Patrick’s Day. The iconic St Patrick’s Day Street Festival will also be making its glorious return to Boat Quay, courtesy of Singapore River One. From 3pm to 10pm, the street will be enlivened with all things Irish – like food, games and even live entertainment. There will also be plenty of fun activities on-site with attractive prizes to be won – although no pot of gold can be found here.

There’s also plenty of special experiences and exciting Guinness promo deals happening at some of your favourite bars and pubs in the area. You can also bring home some exclusive Guinness merch such as jute bags, yoyos, mugs and magnets when you take part in the Giant Plinko game. All you have to do is to complete your stamp redemption card and these prizes could be yours!

To make things even more festive, come dressed in green and hop over to the makeover station to complete your St Paddy look with glitter face paint, airbrush tattoos, and green and white hairspray to look embrace the St Patrick’s Day spirit from head to toe. The makeover is provided by Guinness and is complimentary for all.
