With only two tables and a single bar counter for dine-in, Les Mains is predominantly a takeaway concept. Still, it is a convenient spot for residents in the area in need of a sweet treat and/or caffeine pick-me-up.

The patisserie serves up handmade pastries and desserts prepared by the in-house pastry chef, hence the name “Les Mains” (French for “the hands”). Though not as extensive as its more established counterparts, the current selection of tarts, gâteaux, pound cakes, and choux gets the job done.

As someone who prefers tarts over cakes, I couldn’t wait to dive into these handcrafted beauties.

Exquisite tartes

The true test of a good patisserie lies in the most “basic” or standard option on their menu. In this case, the classic Fruit Tart (S$10.90), a buttery vanilla tart shell filled with light vanilla diplomat cream and topped with seasonal fruits, did not let me down. Who knows? You might find yourself humming to the tune of Strawberry Fields Forever.

If alcoholic desserts are right up your alley, the signature Chocolate Whiskey Tart (S$10.90) will do you no wrong. This is the real deal — a chocolate tart shell filled with vanilla caramel and topped with a silky smooth layer of whisky-infused Valrhona chocolate ganache.

The strong hit of whisky was a jolt to the senses, leaving slightly bitter traces on the tongue, rendering me powerless. I could do nothing but take another bite.

As someone with an inclination toward pistachio-based desserts, the Pecan Vanilla (S$8.90) left me swooning. Think crisp choux pastry filled with light vanilla cream, topped with a salted caramel swirl and concentrated pecan praline.

The balance of sweet, salty, and nutty was everything I wanted and more.

Other sweet offerings include the Strawberries & Cream (S$7.90) and Banana Chocolate (S$10.90) gâteaux, as well as mini Choquette (S$3 for 5pcs), Matcha Madelines (S$2.90 for 3pcs), and even a Truffle Mushroom Quiche (S$8.90).

The patisserie also has plans to roll out a savoury breakfast menu in the near future — I’m looking forward to that.

Don’t sleep on the coffee (and IG-worthy latte art) — it can definitely give neighbouring cafes a run for their money. I thoroughly enjoyed my White (S$5.50), a well-balanced, not-too-acidic medium roast.

Non-caffeine options include Chocolate (S$6.50) and freshly whisked Matcha (S$6).

For those who like it cold, the Cold Brew Black (S$6.50), Cold Brew Oat Milk (S$7.50), and Matcha (S$7.50) come in sleek glass bottles, and are perfect for sweltering afternoons.

One of the exclusives here is a cool variety of crispy, hearty rostis. Choices include the Sweet Potato Rosti (S$16), Salmon Rosti (S$18), and Crabcake Sweet Potato Rosti (S$18).

If you’re a pancake lover you might be want to go for the 2 pancakes that are newly introduced to 6 Letter Brunch.

The Smoked Duck Pancakes (S$12) is a savoury pancake that comes with sour cream and smoked duck, topped with some blueberry jam to cut through the heaviness.

But if you have a sweet tooth, then you definitely can’t resist the Pancake Wonderland (S$16)‘s combo of three mini pancakes, a single gelato scoop, Creme Anglaise, cookie crumble, and an IG-worthy ensemble of fruits.

If you’re here to get your caffeine boost, 6 Letter Brunch’s classic coffee selection includes Latte (S$5), Flat White (S$5), and Mocha (S$6). Milk alternatives such as soy and oat cost an additional S$1.

But for something unique, there’re also choices such as Charcoal Cafe Latte (S$6), Hazelnut Latte (S$6), and Macadamia Latte (S$6) available.

This could be a good spot to chill at if you’re a cyclist looking for a convenient spot to rest in the area. Not only do you have a spot to park your bikes but you can also relax in the relaxing garden decor here.

One of the most stunning new openings is perhaps Blu Kouzina’s new Siglap restaurant, which transports you into a cosy space that looks unmistakably Santorini.

For those who have been looking to soak in the idyllic vibes of Greece, you can now and without the price of a plane ticket too. It’s a nice spot where you can impress a date on a special occasion.

The first thing you’d notice at Blu Kouzina’s Siglap outlet is the elegant contrast of white and pastel blues, a signature of Santorini architecture.

Adding to that is an embellishment of wooden furnishings which give it that sunny Meditteranean ambience, made even cosier by a wealth of natural light streaming in from a perimeter of clear glass doors.

However, Blu Kouzina’s Siglap outlet isn’t just authentic in decor, there’s substance beneath the style as well. Here, you can find the same classic Greek fare as their original outlet.

Of course, it’s not really Greek food without the classic combo of Grilled Pita (S$3.90) with dips.

They have more than 10 dips to choose from, including the yoghurty Labna Dip (S$16.80), earthy Hummus Dip (S$15.80), or the spicy Tirokafteri Dip (S$17.80).

But if you’re a fan of traditional Greek seafood dishes, you can go for favourites such as Xtapodi (S$39.80) grilled octopus or Sardeles (S$30.80) grilled Sardines.

Many meat items can also be found on the menu, with wraps like Souvlaki Me Pita (S$23.80) and Lamb Kebab (S$34.80/3pcs), as well as grilled items like Grilled Lamb Loin (S$49.80).

Other than that, Blu Kouzina’s Siglap outlet also has a new breakfast menu that is available from 8:30am to 11:30am, where you can find hearty breakfasts items like Arabic Breakfast Delight (S$12) and Greek Breakfast (S$22).

While sitting in a cafe cannot replace physically stepping into another country, places like Blu Kouzina can help quench the wanderlust by giving you an afternoon of respite away from the urbanscape of Singapore.
