Ah, chee cheong fun (rice noodle rolls).
It’s a humble Cantonese breakfast staple that doesn’t get enough love, despite being one of the most versatile, fuss-free, and wallet-friendly dim sum dishes out there.

If you frequent the popular Michelin-recommended Sing Lung HK Cheong Fun, why not consider hopping over to Golden Mile Food Centre, just a stone’s throw away, to get your fix at the slightly more underrated Xin Kee Hong Kong Cheong Fun 鑫记港式肠粉?

The hawker stall has only five menu items at the time of writing, with their Hong Kong Style Cheong Fun (S$3.50) being the most popular (or trendy?); I’ve seen it plastered all over my social media feeds.
Silky, smooth, and delicate rice rolls with generous lashings of peanut sauce and sweet sauce — it’s practically an edible work of art!

But of course, you can also order the traditional cheong fun with Chai Poh (preserved radish, S$3.50), Char Siew (S$4), and Prawn (S$4.50), all of which are freshly made to order, best enjoyed with a serving of Lao Gan Ma-esque chilli.

The Youtiao Cheong Fun (S$3.70), or zha leung, is also not to be missed. Freshly fried youtiao (dough fritters) is rolled with the steamed cheong fun, yielding a crisp exterior with soft and chewy insides.

Seriously, what’s not to like about the authentic and affordable HK-style chee cheong fun sold at Xin Kee Hong Kong Cheong Fun?
Just be sure to head down early, given that the stall only opens till mid-afternoon (or earlier, if they sell out).
