The wildly popular Chinese dessert chain Yang Xiao Xian is finally in Singapore with its signature milk ice topped with mango chunks, boba and so much more

It’s no secret that we love shaved ice — the number of dessert stores specialising in this particular sweet treat (and their snaking queues) are testament to that. We have snow ice, kakigori, bingsu — and now, Chinese milk ice

If you’re on RED (Xiao Hong Shu), you may have seen the popular Chinese dessert chain Yang Xiao Xian (杨小贤) pop up on your feed. If those aesthetic bowls of milk ice have piqued your interest, I’ve got good news for you — the first Yang Xiao Xian outlet has finally opened in Singapore, and it’s conveniently located at Orchard Gateway

The store is pretty hard to miss with a bold neon storefront and its interior all decked out in a bright orange hue. While some places tend to fill their entire store with furniture to accommodate as many people as possible, you’ll find ample space between tables here for maximum comfort.

You’ll be spoilt for choice with their extensive menu, but you absolutely have to check out their signature Mango Milk Ice. It comes in two sizes — the standard one for two (from S$16.80) and the Super Mango Milk Ice (from S$28.80) that serves three to five people.

The first thing we noticed was that there wasn’t much syrup ladled atop the dessert, but the owner shared that the taste of the milk ice is meant to be the star of the show — and boy, was she right. While most shaved ice comes with plain ice and various toppings, Yang Xiao Xian’s ice itself was the perfect balance of sweet, milky and creamy.

I would have preferred the mango chunks to be a little more bite-sized, but hey, at least the portions were pretty generous.

Of course, everyone knows Singaporeans go gaga for boba. Try out their Milk Tea Treasure Cotton Ice (from S$16.80) — and if you’re small eaters or just flying solo, they also offer a smaller cup from just S$8.80

If you don’t feel like eating shaved ice, you also opt for a myriad of other offerings like Honey with Herbal Jelly (from S$7), Fresh Fruit Melon Tea (from S$7.80), and White Peach Oolong Tea (from S$6.80)

Their dishes are a little pricey, so be sure to sign up for their free membership which offers hefty discounts and even awards you points for every item ordered. Talk about getting the most bang for your buck!

The next time you’re in town and craving something sweet, you know where to go.
