Are you a fan of the Taiwanese-style desserts served at the likes of Blackball and Nine Fresh? Do you go crazy when you hear the words “taro balls”, “tang yuan” and “grass jelly”?

If so, Beans.Factory needs to get on your radar.

Despite having over 10 outlets in Johor Bahru, Malacca, and Kuala Lumpur (you might argue that crossing the causeway is no biggie), the popular Malaysian dessert chain has come closer to home, setting up its first Singapore outpost at 100 AM Mall in Tanjong Pagar.

There are three main type of desserts offered — Tau Fu Fah (soya beancurd pudding), Shaved Ice, and Grass Jelly — all of which are perfect for a non-cloying post-dinner sweet treat. Diners also get a choice of sugar base — Brown Sugar, Sugar, or fragrant Bentong Ginger Syrup.

If the signature tau fu fah is what you seek, the Beans.Factory Signature Tau Fu Fah (S$8.90), comprises taro balls, peach gum, and grass jelly on a bed of silky smooth beancurd.

Otherwise, the Taro Family Tau Fu Fah (S$8.90) features a generous scoop of taro paste that’s bound to get taro lovers talking. The same goes for the Taro Family Grass Jelly (S$8.50), which substitutes beancurd for grass jelly and snow (bird’s) nest.

Those who prefer to cool down with shaved ice can opt for the Signature Shave Ice (Peanut Candy, S$5.90), consisting of soya shaved ice and peanut candy, or take it up a notch with fun yet reliable flavours like Mango (S$7.90), Red Bean Black Sesame (S$8.90), and even Signature Durian (S$12.90).

With most dessert spots, diners also get the option of DIY-ing a hot or cold base of tau fu fah, grass jelly, or flavoured shaved ice. There’s no better time to go all out with toppings like Black Pearl (S$0.90), Purple Rice (S$1.20), Handmade Taro Paste (S$2.50), and Red Bean (S$1.20), just to name a few.

Make it as decadent, healthy, or as monstrous as you want — no one’s stopping you!
