For an additional S$15, you can have it salt-baked — an ancient cooking technique where fish is baked in a thick layer of salt for a tender, flavourful finish. 

As one of the less mainstream cuisines found in Singapore, it’s definitely worth visiting if you like a foodie adventure.

Cafe Mary Grace 

Jollibee has long been hailed as the figurehead for Filipino food in Singapore. But that reign has now been challenged with the opening of Cafe Mary Grace’s first-ever store in Singapore. The café is a well-loved chain in the Philippines that has expanded to 140 locations ever since its first physical store opened in 2002. As the bakery makes its international debut, here’s what to look forward to at the cafe. 

The café’s selection of sweet and savoury pastries reinforces a “home away from home” identity with its home-made style and presentation. Their most popular items include the fluffy Ensaymadas (S$5.50), Cheese Rolls (S$4.30), and a rich, creamy Hot Chocolate (S$7.50). 

The savoury selection is equally appetising, with hearty fare like the Angus Beef Tapa (S$25.50) and Grilled Chicken Inasal Focaccia (S$19.50).

Set along a row of beautifully restored shophouses on Tras Street, Shin Terroir is a discreet dining destination, hidden from the chaotic bustle of hurried commuters. Its simple wooden door, set against a whitewashed wall, appears modest and unassuming from the outside—yet the moment you step through, it’s like entering a different realm. Shin Terroir takes a modern approach to Japanese grill; the Yakitori here combines innovation with traditional techniques. Each ingredient is carefully selected by their head chef and grilled with precision for the best flavours and quality.

While the experience maintains its luxurious feel from its Omakase days, the price point makes it a reasonable go-to spot in the CBD. Signature skewers start from just $6, while Hokkaido-inspired small plates begin at $8, making it one of the most compelling value propositions. If you’re looking for a casual midweek indulgence, this place has all the quality without the formality of a traditional Omakase spot.

Complementing the food is an extensive beverage programme. Shin Terroir is one of the few restaurants in Singapore to carry the full range of Aramasa Sake, alongside a wine selection that highlights Burgundy and Champagne.

The experience is expanded with a cocktail menu with classic and contemporary selections designed to pair seamlessly with the grilled fare. Highlights include Whisky Honey ($18), Kyuri ($18), Matcha Sour ($28), Lemon Chu-Hi ($20), Highball ($18), and Oolong-Hi ($16).

Chico Loco 

Located in the heart of the CBD, Chico Loco is one spot you’ll want to bookmark for your next TGIF gathering. Decked out with fairy lights, hanging plants, and vibrant mural-covered walls, it creates a lively atmosphere that’s perfect for winding down over a leisurely meal and carefree conversations. 

It sells flavourful Mexican fare that’s great for sharing but can also be enjoyed individually. As Singapore’s unpredictable weather takes a turn for the worse, this recently opened affogato store could not have popped up at a timelier moment. Between the sweltering heat and our crippling coffee addiction, AiFOKATO is set up for success. The cosy wood-panelled space invites you in with its viral treats such as the -86 Coffee and Butter Mochis from Korea. 

Spotlighting the signature Affogato, it’s sold with a DIY concept that lets you create up to 12 flavour combinations. Four gelato flavours: Madagascar Vanilla Gelato, Premium Korean Matcha Gelato, Callebaut Dark Chocolate Gelato, and lastly its signature Premium Pistachio Gelato—and three hot pours: Espresso, Hot Chocolate, and Matcha Pour. Their gelato is made egg-free and gluten-free, with clean, mellow flavours that can balance out the intensity of the espresso.

Noci Bakehouse

Korea has been killing it in every department lately—from beauty to pop culture to food, they’ve established a dominating presence on all fronts. From now until 30 June, all Tim Ho Wan outlets in Singapore are offering a brand-new, limited-time-only Tim Ho Wan Nostalgic Dim Sum Series.

Traditional Hong Kong dim sum

The restaurant chain has partnered with Dim Sum Grandmaster Fu Sing, an industry veteran from Hong Kong with over 80 years of experience, to launch this menu inspired by old-school dim sum from the 1950s and 1960s. 

The 95-year-old’s mastery of dim sum recipes, paired with Tim Ho Wan’s modern culinary expression, translates into four iconic dishes you would love to savour.

Steamed Layered Cake with Olive Kernel 

The first of these dishes that caught my eye is the Steamed Layered Cake with Olive Kernel (S$7.90 for 3pcs). The bright orange layers just call to whoever beholds them, and turns out — they are filled with candied lard, olive kernels and shredded coconut.

Steamed meticulously, prepared patiently and layered precisely, this is traditional Cantonese pastry at its best. I can’t wait to try one myself. 

Lard Bun with Crispy Nuts and Sesame Paste

Another dish that would ‘speak’ to me is the Lard Bun with Crispy Nuts and Sesame Paste (S$7.90 for 3pcs). I am a sucker for anything related to bread, so this Polo bun lookalike would be right up my alley.

A creation by Master Fu from decades back, this lard-infused bun is filled with sesame filling that was sautéed over low heat. At the top, a glaze of syrup, soy sauce, Pu’er tea, and lard is brushed over. Finally, the buns are baked to perfection with a crisp exterior and soft interior.

XO Quail Egg with Pork & Shrimp Dumplings

At first glance, the XO Quail Egg with Pork & Shrimp Dumplings (S$7.50 for 3pcs) seems unconventional. But perhaps, that is the appeal — it is a unique-looking dumping bursting with different flavours.

In essence, it is a mix of things I would really enjoy, but never imagined together in one package. A contemporary take on siew mai, with basil-infused pork wrapped within, and an XO sauce and quail egg combination seated on top. I would try it just out of curiosity.

Crispy Pork Lard with 3 Colours Rice

The last dish in the Tim Ho Wan Nostalgic Dim Sum Series is Crispy Pork Lard with 3 Colours Rice (S$6.90). The mixture of different textured grains, together with the fragrance of crispy pork lard, creates a nice side dish that will make your meal feel complete.

Besides the food, customers who visit the Tim Ho Wan outlet at Plaza Singapura from 22 May onwards will have photo opportunities at a wall inspired by old-school Hong Kong teahouses. Fully immerse yourself with the props and have a blast to the past!

The new menu features 3 new items: a Loaded Salad Bowl (S$7.85), a Side Salad Cup (S$4.45), and a Corn cup (S$3.25), available à la carte and as a meal. 

The Loaded Salad Bowl will be served with succulent chicken bites over a bed of fresh lettuce with cherry tomatoes and sweet corn for extra freshness and sweetness. You can choose between 2 dressing options: a Kewpie black vinegar onion for some tartness, or a Caesar dressing for added richness and creaminess.

For those tracking their nutrition, the bowl is about 309kcals, with an impressive 19g of protein and 1g of fibre, perfect for hitting those daily protein goals. It’s also available as a meal with either plain water or apple juice for S$8.95.  

If you’re worried you can’t fill up on salads alone, add-ons are available with all orders of the Loaded Salad Bowl and Garden Side Salad. You can get a piece of Chicken Tender for S$1.95, a whipped potato for S$1.50, or a medium mac and cheese for S$2.95. 

However, if you want to go all out and indulge in fried chicken, then the side salad or corn cup is a perfect option to balance the meal while still getting your daily dose of greens and fibre.

Interactive installations

One of the highlights of i Light Singapore this year is the interactive artworks and installations. Visitors are welcome not just to take photos of the captivating displays but also to be part of creating the art they see.

Let’s Fish the Sun!

One of the displays I would love to check out is Let’s Fish the Sun! by Wentao Wang, located at Marina Bay Lower Boardwalk. Apparently, you will be able to “reel in” the sun with a fishing rod and “reverse” the sunset. I guess this artwork is perfect for those of us who never wake up early enough to catch the sunrise.

Infinite Graffiti

It’s probably going to be chaotic if I get involved, since I can’t draw. But for those of you who can, Infinite Graffiti by Graffiti+ will be the perfect canvas to express your creativity. Well, even if you only think you can draw, just give it a try!

Located at the entrance of Marina Bay Link Mall, this five-metre-long digital graffiti wall is where visitors can use sensor-activated spray cans to create graffiti together according to their imagination.

Artwork by local design talents 

I am proud to ‘support local’ when it comes to appreciating the work of Singaporean creatives. Because who else can capture the Singapore spirit with art better than them? 

Steps

When walking along the Marina Boulevard waterfront during i Light Singapore 2026, be sure to keep a lookout for Steps by Nawal Bte Azhar. This set of glowing staircases symbolises Singapore’s progress and our nation’s continuing story.

Market Cycles

Another installation to explore is Market Cycles by Tan Mei Yee and Ng Choon Wee. Situated at the Mist Walk, this light display utilises everyday wet market plastic crates to form an immersive luminous artwork. Talk about finding beauty in the ordinary.

Festival Village 

GastroBeats 2026

In case you missed it, GastroBeats is making its return to Bayfront Event Space from 5 to 28 June as part of i Light Singapore’s festival village. Bringing together food, music and sports, this will be a great place to wind down, chill and dine after exploring i Light.

The designer, Tomoko Kanashima, was inspired by the architecture and artefacts she encountered in her travels to Singapore, Japan and the USA. As she brings her pieces to Singapore for the first time, it marks a full-circle moment for the designer and serves as a fitting tribute to her success.

The pieces at Empress Bijoux comprise intricate metalwork framing colourful gemstones, perfect for a bolder look while remaining subtle and elegant. Lost & Fray 

Lost & Fray is a luxury loungewear store that has it all — unique designs, quality clothing, and sustainable materials. Rainforest Wild Adventure will have 2 zones, Rainforest Wild Adventure West and Rainforest Wild Adventure East. And it is the latter which will house the park’s newest attractions and activities. Keep reading for the highlights we are looking forward to.

Adventures

Canopy Glider

What makes Rainforest Wild Adventure different from other wildlife parks is the sense of freedom and spontaneity. You will get to roam as freely as the animals, and nothing highlights this more than the Canopy Glider.

This Adventure+ experience, one of many included in your admission, will take you above the trees, allowing you to enjoy the Afro-tropical landscapes of Rainforest Wild Adventure East.

Ravine Swing

If you’re looking for something more thrilling, take a ride on the Ravine Swing. You will soar eight metres above the ground, with clear views of the eastern bongo and red river hog habitats. 

Split Rock Summit

For those of you who want to challenge your fear of heights or just love rock climbing, why not scale the Split Rock Summit? This 11-metre-high adventure will overlook Lemur Land, giving you a glimpse of Madagascar’s wildlife. 

Wildlife

From the animals we’ve mentioned so far, you can probably sense a theme going on. Rainforest Wild Adventure East is inspired by Afro-tropical and Madagascan landscapes and will be home to 58 species upon opening.

Okapi 

One of the species worth mentioning is the okapi, which will be making its Southeast Asian debut. This endangered species, which has similarities to a zebra but is actually related to the giraffe, originates from the dense forests of the Congo in Central Africa.

Rainforest Wild Adventure will be the only zoological park in Southeast Asia where you can find the okapi, so make sure not to miss it! Other animals to look out for include the pygmy hippo, Nile lechwe and Diana monkey. 

Entry tickets for locals cost S$50 for adults, S$35 for children and S$25 for seniors. These include access to both the western and eastern zones, as well as up to 9 Adventure+ activities. On weekends and public holidays, admission only includes up to 5 adventures. On all days, there will be a free shuttle bus service between the 2 zones. 

From forest treks to treetop walks to cavern trails, Rainforest Wild Adventure has something for adventurers of all ages. Plan an adventure with your family and friends this May!

More exhibitors will be announced as we get closer to Asia Cat Expo; however, here are a few that you’ll definitely see there. 

Millifloof

Sometimes when you’re feeling down, sassy cat art can go a long way in lifting your mood. And that’s exactly what Millifloof has set out to accomplish. It spruces up everyday objects with humorous cat illustrations, such as shirts, bottles, keychains, and stickers, so that you can do your own decorating.

Its relatable, deadpan humour feels especially fitting for the Gen-Z crowd. Some of our favourite picks include the “Not My Problem” keychain (S$9.50) and the “All Stress No Meow Meow” stickers (S$3.50).

So Cat

Beyond shopping, Asia Cat Expo is also lined up with programmes for the cat community to connect and learn. 

Cat Photography Competition

Capture your cat’s candid moments as they tumble and play, and submit them to the Cat Photography Competition. This year’s theme, “Cats at Play”, celebrates the mischievous yet charming sides of cats. Finalist entries will be displayed in a mini exhibition during the expo, while the top five winners will walk away with camera prizes. Photos will be judged based on storytelling, creativity, composition, emotional impact, and technical quality, so yes, your cat’s gremlin behaviour might finally pay off.

CFA Cat Show

The CFA Cat Show is a celebration of feline beauty and grace, where pedigree cats take centre stage in a competitive yet wholesome showcase. The event features live judging rings where cats are evaluated on breed standards, structure, and temperament. Visitors can expect a lively exhibition atmosphere where passionate breeders show off their stunning pets. 

Adoption drive

Want to be a cat owner? You can meet adorable cats looking for their forever homes from 11am to 6pm. In collaboration with Cat Welfare Society, Purely Adoptions, and Alison Cat Care, the adoption drive features rotating showcases across two adoption areas. On Day 1, Cat Welfare Society and Alison Cat Care will be present, while Day 2 spotlights Purely Adoptions across both zones. It’s a heartwarming chance to connect with rescue cats and support meaningful rehoming efforts.
