Countdown to 2024 with dazzling New Year’s Eve fireworks at these spots from Marina Bay to the heartlands

by June Ngooi

As 2023 — and its festivities — draw closer to an end, it’s time to prepare for the start of an exciting new chapter!

Let’s be real — and I know I’m not the only one — drawing new year’s resolution lists is something that I know full well I will fail at sticking to for the rest of the year. What I am consistent about, however, is managing to catch the countdown fireworks display come 31 December every year.

Last year, we explored some of the spots in the heartlands that featured front-row seats to a spectacular fireworks show, carnivals and more.

This year, we’re back with another guide to show you where the hidden gems are and which places to head to if you want to enjoy the show for the countdown of 2024 with fireworks!

1. Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2024

We’re starting off this list with a big bang at the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2024. This annual affair has maintained its position as one of the most anticipated events, having delivered breathtaking fireworks shows before.

If you remember the mesmerising fireworks musical last year, then this year’s one is going to be bigger and better! Lighting up the Bay across three chapters, the fireworks are going to be unfolding at intervals from 11pm up to midnight. The countdown to 2024 fireworks will be choreographed to tell a story of reflection and hope finishing with a 12 minute finale.

Accompanying the fireworks display are light projections that are displayed on the facades of The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, the Merlion as well as the ArtScience Museum from 26 December 2023 to 1 January 2024 so do look out for that!

These light projections tell stories of hope and empowerment in the Singaporean community and celebrate our spirit of resilience as well as care for others.

All you adrenaline junkies seeking a thrill to usher in the new year 2024 countdown can head over to TurboCharged, which is an immersive go-kart arena. And the best part is that it’s so easy to head to the rooftop deck next to the circuit to catch a good view of the fireworks. Don’t worry for your tummies, though! The circuit also has refreshment stalls that you can grab bites from as 2024 approaches.

The Bayfront Event Space also features Ice Magic: Winter Wonderland, which we visited and it was such a blast that we recommend anyone to go! You still have time after the new year though, as it is from now until 21 January 2024 so mark your calendars.

If you’re keen on catching a glimpse of the fireworks display in a more low-key fashion, you can head over to the SkyPark Observation Deck and grab front-row seats to that lights display. While you’re there, don’t forget to indulge in specially handcrafted drinks from CE LA VI too.

With every party, alcohol always makes things more fun. And this is the case at LAVO’s New Year Eve’s party, with free-flowing champagne and signature cocktails at this rooftop bar and stunning views.

What better way to spend the last few hours of 2023 partying the night away?

2. Mediacorp Let’s Celebrate 2024

Opening its doors at 7pm, Mediacorp Let’s Celebrate 2024 will have a string of fun activities lined up including live DJ spinning, food and drinks, games, as well as opportunities for you to win prizes!

Hosted at The Promontory at Marina Bay, this event’s admission is free of charge for the public. There will be live concerts and high-energy performances as well as musical acts from popular radio DJs and personalities. In addition, you can look forward to comedic dance-off skits by comedians like Kumar and Sharul Channa.

But the most exciting feature — at least for me — is the Interactive Game hosted in the metaverse. Audiences can elevate their celebratory experience by creating an avatar and partake in activities in the virtual world! Prizes in these interactive games include a 2D1N staycation at W Hotel so that could be something to add to your staycation list.

For those who cannot make it to the event, you’re not left out too! You’re able to catch it live on meWATCH and Mediacorp Entertainment on YouTube from 10pm, as well as on Channel 5 from 11pm–12.15am.

Whilst I do enjoy ushering the new year in with my friends, there are times that I would like to dedicate moments like these to spend with family members as well!

For those who would like to spend a good countdown 2024 with fireworks in a more PG-friendly environment, the Sentosa Countdown Party is right up your alley.

Kicking off the festivities on 31 December 2023 at Palawan Green, this family party picnic will hold activities that are fun and exciting for the whole family. With the programme outline starting from 5pm there are plenty of things to do as the night progresses.

Tickets start from S$10 for the little ones and from S$30 for adults, and you can book the tickets from their official website! Honestly in my opinion, that is a pretty good steal considering it includes free flow of happy hour, sets by local DJs, and a drone show, on top of the fireworks show.

Oh and while you’re here, why not make a stop down at Siloso Beach? At just S$25 per ticket, you can turn up the vibes and bask in a beach party at the Sand Bar New Year’s Eve Countdown filled with club anthems and mesmerising fire dancers!

5. Our Tampines Hub (OTH) Countdown

I recall that Our Tampines Hub’s NYE’s countdown was a huge affair with performances paired with gorgeous fireworks to boot (got to hand it to the East siders to make everything just a little bit grander, amirite).

This year seems to be just as impressive, promising entertaining performances, visual masterpieces with projection mapping, as well as a mesmerising fireworks display.

“Many Stories, One Tampines” is the theme, and residents will be able to take a trip down memory lane through a montage of digital storytelling and celebration of the kampung spirit.

Don’t forget to grab your tickets from their official Facebook page! I might not be an eastie, but I’m tempted to attend just for the dazzling firework display.

Just like the East, the North is hopping on that New Year’s Eve bandwagon and not missing out too!

You would think that NorthBound Fest’s four hour show will be jam-packed full of activities, and you will be right. In addition to stage performances, there will be fringe activities for the little ones such as bouncy castle.

And if you want to feed your hungry bellies, there is enough food to go around in food trucks that will fill your tastebuds. If you’re feeling artsy, there are workshops available at the event that you’re able to sign up for.

With tickets starting from just S$5, there is a little something for everyone here and this countdown for 2024 fireworks already sounds like a blast! Do bear in mind that you can only get tickets physically from these locations.

7.  Keat Hong Fiesta Countdown

Let’s be real: who wouldn’t want carnival games at a countdown?

That is what Keat Hong Fiesta is going to include in their countdown for 2024, along with snacks and drinks, as well as a host of performances for all attendees. It would just be like a carnival affair except this time, you’re counting down the new year!

Of course the main highlight will be the fireworks display just as the clock strikes twelve, so you definitely can’t miss that.

Tickets are priced at S$5 and you can purchase them here. You even get a Keat Hong Countdown tote bag thrown into the mix!

However, do take note that there are only 1000 tickets available so do try and get your tickets earlier to avoid disappointment.
