Daily Chicken is now halal-certified, but is it still as good?

If you’ve ever felt that you were missing out on the BHC Chicken hype, or the Korean Fried Chicken craze because many outlets aren’t halal, we have good news for you!

Daily Chicken has just become halal-certified, but this new change also raises the question—can it still be as good as before? In this story, we answer that question.

With a retro interior filled with yellow sofas, funky LED lights, and satirical wall posters, it felt as if in the set of Stranger Things. Upon taking our seats, we decided to try out three items: Boneless Soy Sauce Black Gangjeong (with rice cakes and pop chicken kimchi dumplings) (S$18), Daily Chicken Crunch (S$10.50 for 3 pieces), and K-Chicken Luncheon Fries (S$12) . As well as a refreshing Peach Pop (S$4) and Strawberry Sparkle (S$4)

When the Boneless Soy Sauce Black Gangjeong made its entry, we were pleasantly taken aback by its sheer portion and glistening sauce. The chicken bites were extremely crispy and softened over time thanks to their drizzled sauce. While on the surface it might look as if the sauce is packed with sweetness, we found it to be less sweet than brands like Jinjja Chicken or BHC, as delicious as those already are.

Accompanying the well-balanced sauce is its tteok (rice cake), which, unlike tteok that feels rubbery, was soft, in turn making the biting experience enjoyable. We also recommend ordering the Rice Cakes with Pop Chicken Kimchi Dumplings rather than Fried Sweet Potatoes, because the sweet potatoes might cloy your palate with their starchiness.

As for the Daily Chicken Crunch, we found a flavour we’ve never seen in Singaporecrushed cornflakes. Upon being served, the smell of cornflakes immediately caught our attention. Producing a satisfying crunch, this flavour was also another well-balanced creation.

Combining sweet cornflakes and savoury chicken, alongside an underlying mild spice, this is sure to become a popular menu item! The Daily Chicken Crunch was also served fresh and hot, not just for us, but also for other customers who we overheard mentioning the heat of the freshly fried chicken.

Not forgetting the K-Chicken Luncheon Fries, the basket tasted like typical fried luncheon meat, but the portion was too big for even the two of us to finish. The ultimate dish for luncheon meat lovers or SPAM lovers, young kids are sure to love this menu item too!

Overall, we would come back again, and our editor found this chicken place to be the closest thing she had had to her favourite fried chicken chain in Korea, Kyochon Chicken

A really cosy place to catch up with friends and yap over a sharing plate of dakgangjeong (boneless chicken), Daily Chicken has more goodness to serve up their sleeves!
