Ever want to live a slice of Belly Conklin’s life from The Summer I Turned Pretty—wandering Parisian streets with fresh pastries in hand?

Hold off on booking that flight, as a newly opened, cosy French café promises to transport you straight to those dreamy Parisian moments.

Meet Hues Canelé, a Muslim-owned business that recently leapt from being a home-based business to a physical storefront at Kreta Ayer Heights on 30 January 2026. It’s just a five to 10-minute walk from the Maxwell or Chinatown MRT station. Though you’ll need to venture into the residential area to spot this hidden gem. Keep an eye out for the industrial-style sign bearing the Hues Canelé name.

Step inside and you’ll find a sleek, minimalist space with a display of freshly baked French pastries and cosy seating. Grab a seat while the owners prepare your takeaway order, perfect for indulging on the go.

The menu keeps things simple with classic French bakes like Canelés (S$5), Financier (S$4), and Madeleine (S$4). While traditional canelés use rum, Hues Canelé perfects theirs without needing alcohol, delivering a crisp, caramelised exterior and a soft, custardy centre. Bread lovers can also try the Shio Pan (S$3.20)Japanese salted bread—and Cherry Tomato Focaccia (prices not yet announced online)

Craving something different? Go for the Matcha Financier (S$5) or any of the nine flavours, including sweet Pineapple Jam, zesty Orange Butter Cream, savoury Salted Egg Lava, and more. If you can’t seem to decide, opt for the box of six mixed flavours canelés (S$28), ideal for sharing during the festive season.

If you want pastries fresh out of the oven, arrive around 11.30am or 2.30pm daily, when they’re at their peak. Miss the timing? No worries, because the pastries still taste as good, even after they’ve cooled down.

Pair your bakes with drinks like coffee, tea, or orange juices, with prices yet to be announced online. Visit from Wednesday to Monday, from 8:30am to 5pm, since the cafe will be closed every Tuesday

Just like Belly Conklin, we found ourselves happily munching on canelés, pretending we were strolling through Paris. Au revoir!
