Located next to Maxwell Food Centre, Kada is a curated lifestyle and wellness hotspot. Just like New Bahru, this new mall has been repurposed into a melting pot for culture, artisanal eats, and community.
The building is situated along 5 Kadayanallur Street, making it just a few minutes walk from Maxwell and Tanjong Pagar MRT.

First helmed as St Andrew’s Mission Hospital in 1923, this building transformed into a modern lifestyle destination and community hub in 2024 (with the oldest electric lift in Singapore). Today, you’ll be able to find its distinct colonial exterior, restored terrazzo flooring, and original timber-framed windows and shutters.
From artisanal pastries, pilates classes, to co-living apartments and Mediterranean fine dining, Kada has something for every craving and hobby.
With that said, here’s our pick of 7 cafes and restaurants to discover, including a Greek rooftop bakery and a hole-in-the-wall coffee spot.
7 Food Spots in Kada
Shou/Daikoku

Right next to the age-old lift, you’ll find a dual-concept restaurant — dim sum eatery Shou by day, and lively Japanese izakaya Daikoku by night.
Pay a visit to Shou for handmade, Hong Kong-style dim sum from just S$5.50 per dish. You’ll find classic dim sums, including Steamed Shrimp Dumplings and Xiao Long Bao, as well as modern twists like the Mala Siew Mai.
CBD workers, I know the struggle of picking a lunch spot after fixating on the same meal every single day. Well, sum-thing you won’t want to miss is the Shou Lunch Set (from S$10.90++), which includes your choice of Pao Fan, Noodles, or Congee. Choose from coffee, tea, or canned drinks, before finishing your meal with an Osmanthus Jelly.
As the day wears on, Daikoku takes over with Japanese fare, from fresh sashimi to sizzling yakitori and ramen. Their speciality is authentic yakitori grilled over Binchotan charcoal.
End on a high with a highball or curated selection of sake and Japanese beers.

Kyuukei Coffee

Let Kyuukei Coffee be your go-to spot for specialty coffee and artisanal pastries. Inspired by a tranquil Japanese aesthetic, their pet-friendly space is designed for rest and authentic connection.
The owner takes his coffee seriously, so let their passion shine through their in-house roasted coffee beans. You’ll be able to taste their heart through their filtered coffee, ranging between S$8 and S$18.
It’s alright if you’re not a coffee connoisseur, because they also have Ceremonial Matcha (S$8 for Straight, S$11 for Latte) and Hojicha (S$6 for Straight, S$7 for Latte).
Feeling peckish? Grab a quick bite from their selection of bakes and savoury bites, such as the Lemon Olive Oil Cake(S$4.50) and Smokey Beef BBQ Toastie (S$22).

Haus

Opened by Cococart’s co-founder, Haus sets the mood with its cheesecake-and-wine pairings, so you can enjoy the popular creamy dessert like never before.
The Signature Cheesecake (S$12) is a combination of the classic New York cheesecake and the well-loved Basque Burnt Cheesecake. Essentially, you get a slice of cheesecake with a caramelised surface and gooey melted middle, but with a crunchy crust.
There’s also a curated collection of wine, so head down and decide on something that complements the rich dessert.
Want to take this baby home? Their 7-Inch Cheesecake (S$69) is available for pre-order on their website.

Echo House

There’s truly no shortage of caffeine in our sunny Singapore, but this is great news for CBD workers looking to spice up their dreary hours.
Drop by Echo House for breakfast (or a midday break, who’s keeping track?), with their Pisang Loaf (S$5.50) and Sea Salt Kouign-Amann (S$6).
Get your greens in with the Strawberry Matcha (S$8.50), or perk up your day with Here Comes The Sun (S$7.50), an espresso tonic with passion fruit puree.
Creamy drinks appeal to me, so my pick is the Vanilla Twilight (S$7.50), their signature cold brew topped with vanilla foam.

Lavi Tapas Bar

Come to Lavi Tapas Bar for small Mexican bites, drinks, and good vibes all around. It’s the sister restaurant of Lavi Tacos, a popular Mexican joint near Chinatown serving indulgent birria tacos.
Their Tapas Tasting Menu (S$88 per pax) is a five-course feast. Each guest gets to choose their own set of nine dishes, including options like the Charcoal-Grilled Octopus, Fire-Roasted Lamb Rack, and Mexican Spiced Chocolate Tart.
Look out for their 1-For-1 Happy Hour from 5pm to 7pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and 3pm to 8pm on Fridays to Sundays.

Pacto by Parchmen

For a quick caffeine fix, Pacto by Parchmen is here with the popular hole-in-the-wall concept.
Pacto is serious about its drinks — you’ll find a wide selection of espressos, matcha, hojicha, filter coffee, and gongfu teas, all below S$8.
Tired of your average cup of joe? Try the Coconut-Matcha “Cloudy” (S$6) or Matcha-Chocolate “Muddy” (S$7) instead.
There are only four seats inside the small space, so it’s best to drink on the go.

Alani Bakery by Proud Potato Peeler

Alani is a Greek-Mediterranean bakery oasis with a gorgeous rooftop view. Amidst the hustle and bustle of CBD, step in and relax with the lush green interior and mid-century modern elements.
Alani is run by Greek-Cypriot chef-owner Alberto Simillides, who also owns Proud Potato Peeler next door.
The star of the show is the 14-year-old Greek sourdough starter (it goes without saying that the breads are a must-try).
Try the Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls, stuffed with either an Italian pistachio praline or a warm cinnamon and chai latte mix. To top it off, these are drizzled with a decadent cardamom caramel.
Unfortunately, the menu isn’t available online, so you’ll just have to check out the delectable bites in person (admin is drooling just looking at their IG feed).
