Located along the bustling Arab Street, this cafe is fully Muslim-owned, with a charming wood interior.
This isn’t your regular cafe — expect unique teas, refreshing sodas, the classic ice-cream-and-waffles combo, and of course, their savoury fried skewers.
All skewers are priced at a fixed value of 99 cents, lok lok-style.
Whether you love meat, seafood, or veggies, this cafe is sure to meat your expectations with its wide variety of options.
You may raise an eyebrow at paying a dollar for crab sticks and chicken sausage, but it’s up to your discretion to choose items worth your buck.
Some of my personal picks from the menu include Mini Mantou, Enoki, Dory Fish Slices, Tenderloin Beef Cubes, Snow Crab Meat, and Tiger Prawn.
Based on reviews, while the skewers aren’t served with any sauce, they’re coated with a slightly spicy powder.
For a perfect end to your night, get their thin, soft Buttermilk Waffles (S$5.90). You can also top up S$4 for a single scoop of ice cream.
The ice cream selection piques my interest with its interesting flavours, including Brown Butter Peach Cobbler, Ube Cheddar, and Hibiscus Apple.
Feeling stuffed already? Give the waffle a pass and get a single scoop of ice cream for S$4.90 instead.
To quench your thirst, try the ever-popular Strawberry Matcha (S$8.90), Caramel Matcha (S$8.90), and Hojicha Latte (S$8.90).
Not a fan of the recent matcha hype? Kayu’s Hibiscus Dream (S$7.90) boasts an interesting mix of Earl Grey, hibiscus, and chocolate (yes, you read that right).
For an extra refreshing thirst quencher, the Mint Berry Essence (S$7.90) features strawberry, mint, and lime with sparkling water.
If you’re in the area with an aching craving for late-night supper, you’ll be happy to know that Kayu Kayu is open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
